• Got the Contributing Memberships stuff finally worked out and made up a thread as a sort of "How-To" to help people figure out how to participate. So if you need help figuring it out, here's the thread you need to take a look at -> http://www.corvetteflorida.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3581 Thank you, everyone! Rich Z.

safe overbore for an LS1

That's waht they want me to do for the warrenty they offer on the engine build.I may just go with 500 miles and get the final tune then. I could have that before the trip to Clearwater.

Personally, I believe whoever quoted $750 to tune Mike's car is being a bit excessive. But it may really be a case that the guy just doesn't want to touch this with a 10 foot pole and quoted a high price knowing Mike wouldn't accept it. A lot of people are aware of what has taken place in Blountstown and may be real reluctant to get involved at this point.

That would be a shame if that's the case Rich. I know these guys down here wouldn't be afraid to get involved.

I still think that's Mikes best option. It will run with the tune that's in it so bring it into a members shop and get her done right at a fair price. JMO.

Bob, you've hit the nail on the head!
Maybe they're concerned that if they make a mistake or something goes wrong, that people will "mount up" and try to destroy them:rolleyes:

I'd hate to think people were afraid to deal with our members because of what they've read here. The perception of vigilantism can be very destructive.
And that's simply not the case:NoNo:

The dynamics of the matter were much more severe than a simple oops, I screwed up;), and the members were left with no other alternatives.

As long as another shop doed quality work, and stands behind it, everyone will be happy and there will never be a problem with anyone here:thumbsup:

Mike, looking forward to seeing you and the car in January:thumbsup::dancer01:

If a guy screws up, maybe gets in over his head but says he's sorry and I'm not out a bunch of money, I'll get over it.

If a thief takes my money, get caught and is truly sorry I'll forgive and forget. I might even offer to help if able.

I can understand how almost anybody can do almost anything to another in a given circumstance.

Now having said all that, there's another type of person out there. I won't go into details but if any of them are on this site they should be afraid. :D

Actually, from another perspective, this could be a big step in a positive direction. If people working on our cars knew that they were being watched carefully, and could have their indiscretions posted publicly for review by much of their potential customer base, then their choices of how to do business would be very simple: (1) Do good business and give your customers what they paid for, or (2) go out of business because future customer of that shop won't like what they see, and decide to simply take their business elsewhere.

As for the perception of vigilantism, I don't believe that is the case at all, and was not the intention of my musing. I believe the issue is more along the lines of someone not knowing what a previous shop had royally screwed up might be real reluctant to have their name associated with that work THROUGH the car they have taken over to try to finish up. It is a big risk for them, because if they miss something that the first shop screwed up, and it causes a major failure sometime down the road, THEY might catch the blame for it, through no real fault of their own. So effectively they have to be very cautious and be even more diligent with their inspection and work to double check EVERYTHING to try to prevent that from happening. It is a burden that not every shop would be willing to accept.

But how will you KNOW whether they are truly sorry or not? It's rather difficult for a thief and a swindler to do what they do without also being a liar. Since lies are a lot like eating potato chips, in that it's nearly impossible to just do ONE of them, are you REALLY going to believe them if they say they have been self reformed?

You have to look the guy in the eye and it's strictly a judgment call on my part. I would hope for change but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. At least I tried. I keep thinking about the guy that tried to steal my suitcase and another that a friend arrested on a warrant and I talked to this guy in his cell. They listened and were courteous to my face. Did they change? I dunno, but I tried to make a difference.

My pistons arrived today. The motor build will start tomorrow. With any luck and I use that term loosely my car will be done by the end of next week.

On our alky drag motors (which are built a little looser than street motors) we starte it, heat cycle it, do valve lash, make one 1/2 track run, one full track run and it's broke in. This is done with a good quality conventional oil with high zinc content.

On LS builds I start with the same type conventional oil w/high zinc, heat cycle twice so the valve springs are ready to run, and then a 50 mile or so ride variying the type of driving with no extended WOT, then it's on the dyno and at 500-1000 miles out with the breaking oil and in with a good syn.

No ring seat issues and no failures.

I figure that at 500 miles I should be able to get the final tune done. I will be using valvolinel 5-30 oil with a quart of Lucas break in treatment for ring seating.I plan on doing an oil change at 100,500 and 1000 then mobil1 from there on out.

The short bolck is finished.Tomorrow he hopes to get the rest of the motor done.I should have it back by the middle of next week if all goes right.

Let's figure you'll have it by the 5th. That may save you some heartburn if it's not done next week. Doesn't look like they're wasting any time.

NO they're not wasting any time. It's been there for 3 months so they want to get it out. It's been almost 10 months since I first took my car to Chris.I am ready to get it back and drive it. I'm going to call the guy here in PC that can do the tune on a dyno as soon as I know it's ready for me to pick up.
Once I know it road worthy I'll make reservations in Clearwater for the meet and great.Coming down on the 14th and will leave the 16th to drive back to PC.

Sounds like a good plan Mike. Sure doesn't seem like it's been there 3 months but you know better than I do.

Congrats, Mike. Hope everything goes smoothly for you from here on out.

Thanks Rich. After all we've been through we need a good break to happen. Sure hope your's get's finished soon. It's been a tough year for anyone who had work done by Chris Harwood. Here's to a great 2011 for all the Corvette owners who use this forum, and a very Merry Christmas!!!!!!

AH-HAAAAA! I just figured it out. All of this cold weather in Florida is due to Rich's car not being available to him. Last year.........this year.........think about it! When he gets the beast back the warm weather will return :lmao::lmao:
Andy :wavey:

Hmm, so I guess our weather is going to depend a lot on whether or not my car sees it's shadow in my driveway, eh? :hehehe:
