Saved a C4 parts car

I have a Mercedes 450SL with a 383 stroker and a 700R4. Wanted to replace rear so I bought an 84 for parts. Hauled it home with a wrecker. Once home had to clean it up so neighbors would not complain. 2 days later I found a shinny red Vette under there. Nothing worked but the minute I got the engine to fire I knew I had to save it. Lots of sweat and about $400.00 in parts and it runs like a champ, has cold air and even got the dash to work using my little trick. Only thing I could not save was the Bose system. A new sony system took care of that. Still need a rear for my Mercedes but I now have a second hot rod. Articles on this forum helped a lot.

Great! Also :welcome: to the Forum. Some pics of your RIDE would be apprciated.

Work in progress

I started by airing up the tires and spraying WD40 on the disks to get the wheels to turn. I know, you don`t oil your brakes but that was a temp. fix. After I cleaned all the tree sap and mold off the car, I founds spots of shine so I got the wax and buffer out. This car was way out back under a tree and I think all that crud must have put a protective layer over it. Shines like new. I will post pics soon. Getting the cross fire units to work was a biggie but it idles at 600 and purrs. My last Vette was a 67, way back in the day so I`m learning all over again.

:welcome: and great to hear about a Vette being saved from the crusher.

I wouldn't mind hearing about that SL either...

I agree! Photos of both projects, please!

and...WELCOME! That's why its hard for me to buy parts cars....they end up being projects.

:welcome:

Sounds like you have a knack for saving basket cases.

ChevyBenz, my other hot rod

I bought the 84 Vette as a parts car. I wanted the rear for my Mercedes 450SL. I installed a 383 stroker with 700R4 and am ready to finish with a new rear end. Since I saved the 84, I have to start over to find another rear for ChevyBenz. I have photos of ChevyBenz build at photobucket.com. Once there type in drm184 in search box. If you need a password, its 18436572. Password look familar, if not you don`t deserve to be here. I have a small spoiler to go on the back of the Benz. On the spoiler it says "This Benz has a Heartbeat". I also powder coated a set of Z28 rims to put on the Benz. Car guys will pick that up right away

First photo of parts car

I remembered a photo of the 84. I put the stripes on from vinyl stock material. I now have a master template for future stripes. Didn`t mean to spoil the shot. The Ford behind is not mine. A lot of buffing and rubbing got the paint to come back. Ignore date stamp on photo, I just point and shoot.
