Securing new inner door panels

Early C-3 owners. How have you handled getting good secure attachment to the door frame with the door panel? I've had fit problems from go. The panels are reproduction and of good quality but the attachment pads, although they align well, rarely secure the two parts together tightly as they should. I have ordered a four piece clip kit with hardware to use along with the original hook and loop attachment.

I'm interested in chatting with others who have used the clip kits, the results and learning of other tricks that might help.

I'd also like to know about vapor barriers to go between the paneland door frame.

I'm open to all suggestions.

Thanks,

Ken

Ken, i've heard a lot of folks that have had same problem with repo door panels securing. Guess the plastic takes it own form and doesnt want to bend as it should. Or for some that let sit in sun for hours to get fexible, eventually they pop off where they snap on.
My original ones pop off now and then at the front and rear of the door. Just smack it back on and good for a few months.
Regarding the vapor barrier. Was just a somewhat clear piece of heavy mil plastic cut around the inner door panel. held on by black goop. I've seen one or 2 places that that are selling something similar But would have to be trimmed. Basically used to keep rain, dampness off the fiberboard backing of the original door panels.
Hope this helps

Ken I dont remember if u have the deluxe interior. The one with the carpet strip at bottom of door panel. But a guy once told me he pulled back the carpet area a bit and used a long sheet metal screw to secure the door panel at bottom. front and mid line. Then glued the carpet back on. Out of site, out of mind. No one knew Solved the problem
the mind remembers things all of a sudden. A little later but did come back to me

Ken,

In '69 in addition to the plastic attachment pads there are two small brackets that are attached to the inside of the door panel and that screw into the jam of the door 9front and rear) at the bottom of the door panel. Also, there are two screws at the top (front and rear) that go through the pad and into the metal inner skin of the door. Most reproduction door panels do not have these holes pre drilled. If your year is similar to my '69 you should see the screw holes in the inner door skin with the door panel removed. Without these screws in place it is difficult at times to keep the top lip of the door panel over top the top lip of the inner door skin.

I hope this helps.

Hey Rich,

Top edge of the door does have both screws in place but it's the bottom edge that just never seems to remain secure. Do the screw locations on the bottom have dipples to mark the correct locations or can you send me measurements of pic's?

Hey Ken,

PM sent with pic.

Ken, I had to replace a broken window in a 67 Camaro I had. The door panel would not stay "locked in" even though it was the original one with new push clips. PITA !!

You might try this, put a blob of silicone around the push clip and try that. I think GM used something similar during factory assembly.
