strange thing

I have begun noticing an intermittent action by my drivers side headlight. Went to the gas station yesterday (lights properly retracted) and when I shut down the Vette the L. side headlight came up. It went back down as soon and I restarted the car. I got home and put her in the garage and she did it again. Restarted the car and shut it down and it went down and stayed down, kinda funky if you ask me. I wonder if the actuator is beginning to malfunction? All lines appear in tact and properly connected.

Anyone had a similar malfunction?

Ken:confused:

sounds more like vacuum to me than actuator, I don't know much on the C3's but I would assume some kind of check valve on the vacuum line, and would start there.

I'll look in that direction.....

Saw a diagram of the vacuum system somewhere, just have to go find it again.... Thanks

I would start looking for vacuum leaks first before assuming the actuator is the problem. A new actuator is well over a $100 so you don't want to replace that if you only have a leaky vacuum hose or bad relay valve. There are three (I think) vacuum relay valves for the early '70 C3s. One on the dash and the other two are located under the nose between the headlights. Just lift the hood and look between the hood and the front of the car, you should see them. If I was a betting man I would say that the culprit is going to be around the vacuum relay valve that controls your problem headlight.

There is a company in Connecticut called Dr. Rebuild and he has, in my opinion, the best vacuum stuff for the early C3s. The guy that owns the place, Jeff something, can be a pain to deal with, but his products are great. He also sells a trouble shooting guide for the vacuum system and I think it is only a few bucks. Here is his link www.docrebuild.com

Good luck!
