C4 Tail light mod

shakedown067

Sinister C4
Got the sequential tail light kit a while back for my birthday. Finally got around to installing them this weekend. I think it's a cool effect. Hopefully a bit more of an attention grabber for those who don't pay attention. Hell what am I saying, people run into freakin' school buses, these lights won't help. But, at least they look cool. :rofl1:

OH MAN...THATS AWESOME...I often wondered if they made that for C4's...will it work for an early C4? What's involved? How much? Where? Will it work with the LED Halo taillights I have? inof Info, INFO!!!

I knew you'd like it. Should work with the LED's, they are actually a tad slow with the stockers. I got them from Zip-Corvette and they'll work with any car, they don't make a C4 specific kit, but this worked great. Of course they make a plug and play kit for C5s and C6s. Only issue I had was they said the module needed to be in the trunk, but it isn't happening with our cars. I just hot glued the bottom of the module to make sure it was water tight and zip tied it to the tail light wiring harness.

You have to pull the tail lights out to access the wires to tap into and the one to cut (outside lamp turn signal wire). Even pulling the lamps and putting everything away, it may have taken me an hour. The other thing is the inside lamps have four wires. Two are the same and it doesn't matter which one you tap into. Oh, if you leave the turn signal on with the car off and you hit the brakes, that side won't work (they are blinking when the car is on so the modulator doesn't know any better). I thought something was wrong and swapped one of the wires that were the same color. Still did it, then noticed the turn signal was on. Turned it off, and the brakes worked fine (they sequential once then stay solid, it's a cool effect too).

Cool...just now wondering how it will look with LEDs, since they basically come on full blast with no "fade up" like standard bulbs. :shrug01:

And you're saying that when you hit the brakes, they sequence once (in to out) then stay on solid? Pretty cool.

Hmm good point. I thought about just getting a set of LEDs at autozone and trying them out, but I think the ones from the back up lights will work. Maybe I'll swap them next weekend and shoot a vid for ya. I never really thought the kit was worth the money, but it is a perfect gift. And yes, the brake lights sequence once and stay solid. You can set it to not do it, but I really dig it. Too bad I don't ever get to see it. It's strange to have a mod you can't see or feel (power/suspension)

Id be interested to see how they work. I had to switch to the LED brake lights...in a bad rainshower, you cant see my car at all...silver, no center mount brake light, stupid people everywhere...its a recipe for disaster, so when I saw those Halo LEDs, I had to get em.

And yea, i never see em either, but i know they look awesome.

I was planning on going LED too, but I guess this mod may stop that until I see if they work. When I get a chance to change them out, I'll send ya a vid...good or bad.

Well, the LED's I have won't fit the tail lights. But here's a C6 with LEDs and sequential lights. I may still order up LED bulbs from CorvetteHID and see what happens.

Thats still pretty dead sexy!

Although now I gotta get myself all cut up AGAIN taking the taillights out...there are no exterior screws like yours...everything is from inside the bumper and my arms aren't exactly thin. :ack2: I always look like some kinda heroin addict after digging back there.

Just another thing to add to my wish list  Thanks for sharing.

I wish I could have done the mod with just those screws. I too have to unbolt them from the rear to pull the whole housing out, which you have to do to get to the wires. I've certainly got my share of scrapes on my right arm. Did find what I was doing wrong. I was going through the backup light hole to get the first bolt, then trying to get to the next while my arm was still in the opening for the backup lights. I switched to the license plate opening and didn't have any issues at all. I didn't get scraped again, once I figured that out.

That because your arms are smaller than mine.:D But still...having sweet sequential lights like that would make it worth all the scrapes and cuts.
