• Got the Contributing Memberships stuff finally worked out and made up a thread as a sort of "How-To" to help people figure out how to participate. So if you need help figuring it out, here's the thread you need to take a look at -> http://www.corvetteflorida.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3581 Thank you, everyone! Rich Z.

The garage build.

I have followed your progress and things are going pretty well. I
would do somethings differently but it is your project.
When you finish, would list some of your DO AND DON'TS and how
you would tackle your next project.
I have built several homes and the learning curve is steep when
your paying the bill. Good luck with what's left.

Well, I got another delay in delivery of the building to 11/11 so everything will show up here together at the same time. Finding another erector wasn't as tough as I had thought, because apparently everyone is hungry for work. So I'm going to get the guy by the name of Mike Nichols who does work for PSBI to do the erection.

This may work out much better for me on another front because I was afraid the 11/04 date was going to conflict with my drivetrain replacement at Xtreme that just started today and likely won't be finished by that previous delivery date. I wouldn't have been comfortable leaving the site here with the building erection taking place, yet I would have severely hated to miss the later parts of the drivetrain stuff on my car. I probably would have just burst into flames trying to decide one over the other.....

This certainly works out better, although it does delay the completion of the building again. I'll still have the apron to get put down when the erection is done plus call in electricians to do the electrical work I want. Probably won't be until Christmas before I will actually be able to drive the cars into the garage.

As for the "DO" and "DON'T" aspects, yeah, I'll have to look at this in retrospect when it's all over with. See how much money I saved doing the contracting myself as opposed to just handing this off to a contractor. There is definitely a "headache factor" to take into account with this sort of thing.

OK, so today is the DAY. The truck with the steel showed up a little before 7:30am this morning, and I'm waiting on the erectors to show up. It's now 9:00am.

A light drizzle that seems fitting for my mood. So much for keeping the steel dry. Not that it would have mattered anyway, as the truck is an open flat bed, so I'm sure everything got soaked on the way down here from Georgia anyway.

But at least it's not pouring down raining.

I need a "twiddling my thumbs" smiley here......

Yeah, I know what you mean. I felt kind of weird talking to these construction guys about needing help with my erection..... :ack2:

Hey Rich did they offer U a lil blue pill:rofl1::lmao: Good Luck on your Build:thumbsup:

Well, they will be back tomorrow morning to erect the building. There's a delay in getting the insulation delivered, but supposed to be here between 3 and 5 pm tomorrow. Might delay it a bit, as apparently they will reach a point tomorrow where the insulation needs to be installed. Also got those louvers being wayward again. Hopefully they will show up tomorrow as well.

While all this was going on, I was thinking that when I die, I REALLY want to ask God for an audience with Mr. Murphy. My intentions, of course, will be to kick him right square in the nuts. But you know what? I'll BET "Mr. Murphy" will actually be "Ms. Murphy", once again screwing up my plans.... :lmao:

The guy I talked to who was there on site today said they expect to have it all finished in three days. So I suppose it will be done by Tuesday. I've got Allen Dunlop scheduled to come back the following week to finish up that 20x50 apron on the front of the building for me.

I'm generating some videos of the site prep for the footers and slab, and also doing one of the materials being dropped off here. Just some quick and dirty clip and snips without any audio tracks. They should be up on YouTube by later this evening.

I figure when it's all done with, then I'll try to make up a better video with everything from beginning to end.

I'm taking some time off from work, if you need some help maybe I'll come up there Friday or Monday and supervise with you Rich.

Sure! Stop on by if you get a chance! But don't come in uniform. I'd hate to see those Mexicans go running off into the woods when they see the law pulling into the driveway.... :hehehe:

Really! Then you'd have to start all over again getting a crew...no, I won't be in uniform, I wouldn't do that to you!

OK, here's the videos I have starting with the site preparation for the slab through the garage "kit" being delivered today (if this doesn't work too well being all in the same post, I will separate them out into individual posts later on)..

Well, the weather looks beautiful today for getting the garage erected. The guys showed up at 8am on the button, and it looked like things were really going to get rolling. Until they discovered that the ignition switch had gone bad overnight on their forklift they left parked here..... :banghead: Hopefully they'll have it fixed before it gums up the works. One of the guys brought a new ignition switch from the shop, but of course it's not exactly the right type.

The holes on the bottoms of the support columns weren't quite wide enough for the hold down bolts, so they are having to make them slightly wider to fit. And the hold down bolts are slightly too long coming out of the concrete for the socket they are using. Minor stuff, but so far no major problems.

Wish I was over at Xtreme watching my drivetrain get put together instead.... This is interesting and all, but not nearly as much as watching the work on my car.....
