Thinking about moving on

Sort of...

Went out for dinner with the wife last night and we discussed the new work car purchase.

I started thinking (*I hate it when I do that!) ...I'm just getting tired:(

Adding another car to the stable just doesn't make sense!
There's already too many cars around the house as it is.

We discussed (I brought it up) selling the Vette and the truck and me going back to one car for a short while (she has her Volvo as a DD).

Regardless of the amounts I sell them for (not real concerned at this point) it will minimize the outlay for the new ride or at least be able to help me pay it off sooner.

Since I don't really have any other payments than my normal monthly business expenses and our house payment, once it's paid off, I'd start looking for a C5 or maybe even a used C6?

I see that you can get the C5's pretty cheap right now and I don't expect them to go 'UP" in price anytime soon. The C6 is still pretty high, but with no other car payments should be fine as well.

My dilema is that the vette is paid for and I really had some plans to upgrade and personalize it over the next year or so.

Part of me say's keep it and go forward with it (it'd be so cool when it's done), yet another part says to move on up to a smoother, higer HP ride, easier to get in and out of and with a stick this time!

The $$ I"d put into upgrades would by a couple of C5's or a good portion of a new Z.

Decisions, decisions, decisions,......:shrug01:

Already have the Landcruiser being prepped for sale.

Like I said, I'm just tired of juggling for a while...I want, no I need, to simplify my life for a little while....:(

Thanks for listening....

Gordon

BTW, If I sell it before the Venice show, I'll still be there....either sporting the new work ride (I'll park in the back lot:lmao:) or the wifes Volvo...but I'll still be there!:dancer01:

Gordon, I've sold a few cars in my life that I wish I had back. Mostly ones that I had modified to suit ME, but a few original ones as well. My 1978 454 Z28 stands out as my favorite, but I won't go into the others. The bottom line is, it's your decision to make. Can you replace it? Can you live without it? Just make sure there are no regrets.

I think a C5 makes more sense in the long run. It's much easier to enter and exit the car if you get my drift. Also the C4 may become a constant work in progress from a maintenance and wear and tear point of view. You'll also like the improved performance and comfort. Dollar for dollar, the C5 is hard to beat. Just MHO my friend.

I went theough the same thought process last year.

I retired so I no longer wanted the expense of racing with the SCCA so I sold the race car. I sold a 1974 L-48 coupe that I had owned for 32 years. We also sold a 1960 Bugeye Sprite that my wife had owned for 25 years.

I bought a new ZO6 and used the money from the sale of the older cars for the down payment. Looking back, this was a good decision. The race car and the older cars took a lot of maintenance especially when they weren't being used consistantly. The new ZO6 is such a good car that we really don't miss the old stuff like we thought we might.

Now I don't spend my weekends maintaining stuff, I spend them driving the Z. It is 9 months old and I have already put 10,000 miles on it and am loving it!

Tough choice to make. So many times in the past, I've seen folks hang on to older cars and spend more money than they should either modding them or just keeping them running. A guy I know had an '02 Z and spent tens of thousands modding it into a beast with well over 700 rwhp. Then he sold it and bought a pick-up. I thought, why?:shrug01: Anyway, you have several options open to you. And a new car does have one distinct advantage, a warranty. Take your time and I'm sure you'll make the choice that's right for you. Good luck.

I guess it really boils down to a couple of issues to consider:

(1) Are the vehicles you are considering selling irreplaceable?

(2) What will you gain from their sale?

(3) What will you lose from their sale?

I've owned my share of vehicles over the years, and sold them normally when it was time for them to go. I do miss my Jeep Wrangler sometimes, but it's nothing I couldn't buy again if I really wanted to have another one. Their are plenty of them out there.

Sometimes you have to take a look at the number of vehicles you have and consider whether it is worth the expense of insurance for them all, and the maintenance costs that potentially each can cost you.

But I guess the biggest question in everyone's mind reading your dilemma is if you are going to be leaving us if you sell your C4? :( We've already apparently lost Ray when he lost interest in his vette....

And the answer is.... (you better say NO I'm not leaving) :ack2::ack2::ack2::eek::NoNo::NoNo::nonod::nonod:

I agree with Thor. Maybe when you are ready for a Vette again, someone in the Forum might be ready to sell a good running C5 or C6 but "Only the Shadow Knows".

One thing though, you can't leave this site.:ack2::NoNo::NoNo::NoNo:

Fight the feelin' don't sell.Reasons vetts new or used are not selling well unless they are really cheap (real cheap)A vett is a social vehicle.I'm vett-less (temp)and it's an empty feelin'.My 03 was for sale for a year ,thanks to GM Junkie I finally got my price but it took a lot of time-----keep it is my vote

Thanks to everyone for thier input:thumbsup:

I generally don't ask, I just do, but in this case, I guess I just needed some reinforcement.

I tend to get attached to my cars. As the sales lady that I've been working with at the Toyota dealership said, all of my cars have "charachter" (I think she means thier old like me:lmao:).

She and the other sales people loved the Landcruiser...

Huum?? Maybe I do have a market for it:hehehe:

Rich, you and the others are right. I can replace either one of these cars pretty much at will. The Landcruisers although not "plentiful" are out there.

The vette, it's a non-special edition, plain Jane automatic version one each that can be had again pretty much at will.

I agree with Thor and the others about enjoying them rather than working on them and the C5 & 6 ar both easier on the ole body.

Bottom line though for me is, it's a toy. A weekender. A get together with vette friends and hang out car. Bottom line? Both of them are just cars and can be replaced. I've grown attached to it, but attachments to most material things are usually not that reasonable or rational. Not when it's a business decision.

My DD has to be economical to keep the business profitable.

I stopped by the Yota dealership today. The 08 that they ordered was in with 10 miles on it. I drove it and placed a deposit on it. Hope to finalize it over the weekend or early next week.

Hope you guys don't mind me showing up at the Hob Nob in an Scion...We'll just tell them that we're a truly diverse group and that I'm the "token ricer":lmao:

Thor, Rich, Rick, Lou and the rest of you. Thanks for the support:icon_cheers:

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This feels like home to me and I wouldn't leave it for the world. I'm not going anywhere!! You'll have to run me off first :rofl1:

As I've said to others in similar situations, we're friends first, vette owners second:thumbsup:

I give it a year (+/-) and I'll be back in another vette.

Hell, not out of one yet. Still have to sell this one!

No problem, we have a HHR panel wagon and a Cobalt in our group

You definitely have to do what you feel would make things easier for you. Why make life difficult. Simplify. Or as some say, the KISS method. Keep It Simple Stupid. :lmao:
