What's under the big snout on the hood?

$17K doesn't sound too bad for the asking price.

Will they allow you to do a thorough inspection first?

Front mounted or rear mounted turbos?
 
Click on the 24 photos. The prostock hood scoop is useless. Might be a upp twin turbo. Those mount behind front fenders. I looked under the rear and there is mufflers. Front mount intercooler.


Sellers Notes: Twin turbo kit,3200 stall speed torque converter,3.42 gears, kenne bell boost a pump, aftermarket cams, upgraded intake manifold, Fuel rails, Aeromotive fuel pressure Regulator, Worked transmission, Msd wires. Pump gas 93 octane tuned.
 
Hmm, I wonder if that intake manifold would impact the stock hood? Maybe that's the reason for the aftermarket hood.

I guess in your shoes I'd be interested in finding out why the owner got rid of it. Figuring on the dealer making a profit on that listed price, seems to me the owner sold it or traded it pretty cheaply considering what mods he has put into it.
 
I opened the hood. Still stock underside. They added the scoop on top. No hole cut into original hood. They just did it for looks.

They probably got it at auction. When i bought my car from them, they got it from auction. Previous owner autocrossed it up in jacksonville. Bill newman. Had racing seats in it. You can look in my album and see how it was when i bought it.
 
Considering i paid 12k for my car and this one is 17k, i think I'll making out. Doing the same to mine, it would take 10-12k.

Heck man, you know these cars pretty well, mechanically, so if you are happy with it, then go for it. The turbo system itself is worth a chunk of change.

Post #17. It's about increased turbo failures because of deficiencies in the lubricating properties needed for journal bearings in the newest "catalytic converter friendly" oils. Not sure what current oil you are using, but might be worth thinking about.

Like I said, with stock cars, sure, the level of zinc isnt an issue, but with upgraded cams, more radical lobes, and 50-70% more spring pressure, we need the ZDDP.

We are also seeing turbo failures, which use a metal on metal bearing cartridge system. 5 years ago, no issue. less than 0% failure rate. currently, last 6 months, failure rate has quadrupled, and this isnt just vettes, it's in Subarus, Mitsubishis, supras, anything that has a journal bearing turbo with a high load being placed on it. Not ONCE has a failure occurred with a car using redline or gibbs, with these turbos. Coincidence? I think not.

Everett, I dont know what to tell you, LOL! Next oil change, I would highly recommend a better oil.

They guys at redline are working on a nice technical write up regarding these issues, we will post it as soon as we get it.

For the record, I've been using Joe Gibbs oils lately, and recently started using the Joe Gibbs LS30 in the C5Z. Prior to that I have been using other oils that had healthy percentages of ZDDP in the mixture.
