Torque Converter

Anyone in the Tallahassee area with a 2800 3000 Torque Converter that would be willing to give me a ride? I am interested in the mod for my car but am unsure how it will feel compared to stock and don't want to make an expensive mistake.

Thanks,

Hi Jim, I don't have a 3000 stall in my Vette, but I did have one in my 78 Z28. That car had a built 500 hp 454 and to be honest, the streetability of that car was not affected. I honestly couldn't tell the difference....until I went back to the track. The only way I can describe it is to say there was no bog. My stock convertor was in at 1900 rpm. My motor's power band was 3000 to 6500 so when I went to the 3000 stall it was like dropping the clutch again, only with a lot more power. (originally my car had the 350 with a four speed) If I still had it I would be MORE than happy to let you experience it first hand! I let a friend of mine drive it one night and he got out of the car shaking, he said he had never driven anything with so much power! That was back in the 80's, we didn't have 405 hp factory cars back then!

I had a Yank 3000 stall in my '98 WS6 T/A and I could tell a difference on the street. I'd have to run the rpm's a bit higher off the line so it seemed like the car was slow from a stop. This was in every day traffic. If you got on it though with TC off, the tires went up in smoke. The real difference was at the track. I power braked the car and picked up almost 4 tenths on my 60 ft and et's. This car had no other mods except a CAI and these runs were made on street tires. Our track hooked really well.:yesnod: I honestly think that next to FI or nitrous, a converter is a good bang for the buck mod for an auto.

Thanks for the response. Which converter did you have in the Z28?

I don't remember the model but I got it from Turbo Action in Jacksonville along with the shifter.

I have a 2800 in my 88, can't tell the difference from the stock one as far as driveability, but it definately improved my low end torque.

Give us a call, we can walk you through choosing the right one for your needs & we make the best performing TC's for the 4L60E in the country.....bar none. On average customers pick up from 1-3 tenths over any other make of the same spec. 941-753-5255:thumbsup:
