Upholsterers help!!! Can this be salvaged easily?

I had a spare crappy seat that has this part of the seat in good shape. I was going to restitch that part onto the back of this one in the pix unless this one in the pix can be sewn. Opinions please!!!!

I wouldn't bother messing with it, It will just keep popping out. I just re-did my car with katzkins, that was a witch but I have brand new seats now. I know Corvettes are too hard to upholster.

just dont due a saturn VUE, Im warning you :)

Hahahahaha! No I won't. I simply going to cut out this part of the seat back and stitch the good part on from the donor seat.

Grandma did teach me to sew.:)

You can resew leather if the thread has been torn up. It looks like the leather itself is torn in that seat (correct me if I am wrong) so I would say no. You'd have to sew it together farther up the leather (away from the crack), stretching the leather and putting more stress on the threads you sew it together with.

Oh, and leather can be a bitch to sew up, especially if it is thick.

No, you are correct! The leather split, not the stitches.

Update!!!

Ok, since it couldn't be salvaged, what I did was to take the center piece from a donor seat. I cut the center piece out, saving the backings of the stitching for the velcro part of the seat cushion and stitched it back together.

After stitching, double-stitching, tripple-stitching and stitching the backing back onto the seams, this was the final product:

I just got done slappin' that bad boy on. Unfortunately since it's cold, I'm not sure the sun will have it's full effect on getting this guy to settle in right away. Once it heats up a little, the leather should suck in a little and go back into place.
