• Got the Contributing Memberships stuff finally worked out and made up a thread as a sort of "How-To" to help people figure out how to participate. So if you need help figuring it out, here's the thread you need to take a look at -> http://www.corvetteflorida.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3581 Thank you, everyone! Rich Z.

What type of awards structure do you prefer?

There is a new, all Corvette show in the planning and we want it to appeal to as many Vetters as possible. Which type of awards structure do you prefer at a show?

1. Top 25 (or more depending on size of show)
2. Top 3 in classes by generation.
3. 1st, 2nd & 3rd in classes by generation

Also, do you prefer a judged show or participants choice?

Thanks for the input.

Judged show with top 3 in classes by generation and break up generation if year span too long

Depends on the judging criteria?

Don't care for the generaton only breakdown.

Would prefer:
Top 4-5 by:

Generation (original/class-custom/modified street/show/race (broken down further by strip or SCCA/Roadcourse, etc.)
Overall (judged)
Peoples choice (ballot)

Outside of original/show only, have less anal retentive judges. Stop worring about dust on the console on an SCCA/Roadcourse/street modified car!
Save that for the concourse cars, the trailer queens. If it was driven to the show and has miles on the odo, it's gonna have some dirt;)

more trophies make people happy...

top 3 by generation and use 2 classes for each (show cars and driver cars)

show cars are full judging, engine, suspension, interior, exterior (hoods up)
driver cars should only be judged on exterior and interior (hoods down)

C4 and C3's could be broken up into "early" and "late" if you have enough entrants.
could be 42 total awards right there (although you may not get show and driver type cars for C1 and C2'a)

1 "BEST IN SHOW"

It's also lame to allow your club to participate in the judged part (because it always seems that the club judges favor the club cars) SO, do a people's choice for the hosting club 1-3 overall

Good luck with the show!

Bout every show Ive been in its always been participants and general population. Except the two local show spots (those are a bunch of bs), you can tell who the single judge is and whatever big club is there is going to take home majority of the awards/trophies. Reason I stopped going. I dont mind spending the ten bucks to support local charities and what not, but I would expect a fair chance of at least winning something not spend money an know I will walk away with nothing.

Top 3 for each class, but I wouldnt separate it from show and driver cars. Theres just to much to keep track of, and then you start to limit awarding cause getting trophies/plaques made for each thing gets expensive.

But a single best of show is always nice.

Heck, I would rather not even have trophies at all. Does it really matter? Aren't people going to these things mostly to show off their own pride and joy and wanting to have a good time with everyone else there doing the same thing? How many people do you think wind up voting for their own car at these things, anyway?

With judged shows, the judges are looking hard for lint on the carpet or dust in obscure nooks and crannies to knock points off the score. I guess when you have 50 or better of the later model years, what else are they going to look for?

With people's choice normally the one with the most outrageous paint job or the most chrome (polished stainless steel) wins. In other words, the one who spent the most money on BLING, and good taste be damned.

Why not just save the money on the trophies and have more money to give to the charities?

I think the competitive nature of who has the cleanest or more blingified car gets too many people upset when they get the short end of the stick. Yeah, more trophies makes for less disappointed people, but then what is the point? Why not just put a trophy in each goody bag and be done with it? I've seen some people get downright NASTY when they didn't win a trophy and that sort of spoils the fun for everyone when that sort of pettiness gets aired in public.

Quite frankly, I don't care to go to a show that has spot-a-pots instead of real bathrooms. And I tend to find shows with ALL kinds of cars, not just Corvettes, more interesting lately. And I also prefer shows that take place at some sort of attraction or facility that gives Connie and myself something else to do once we have seen every car there twice already.

Realistically, what am I paying for when a show is held at a car dealership that is using the event to draw in potential customers? Shouldn't they be paying ME for this? :hehehe:

But heck, that's just me, I guess. :shrug01:

You know, I kind of agree with Rich.

Although I listed my preference for judging, I'd much rather see the money spent on awards go to a local charity:thumbsup:

And depending on whose putting on the show, think of the amount of positive Public Relations that would generate!:yesnod:

Show & Shines are fun, but when I used to go frequently, I too preferred the ones that had other things to do and places to gather.

Venice and St. Armands are great examples:dancer01:

Shopping, bars and restaurants, live music at some, shade trees and real bathrooms.

The last one I went to in Venice, a bunch of us from here got together a local restaurant and had a blast for lunch. :dancer01:

Unfortunately, some people live for the trophies. I can't really blame them either. With the time, money and effort they've put into thier cars (to all of them are blinged out), they deserve some recognition.

What I don't care for and I mentioned above and Rich even better indicated, is being compared in the same class with a garage queen.

Hell, my 87 was driven! And when you drive them, they're going to get dirty!

I disagree with the hoods down part on street cars. I think it should be an option that you, the owner can exercise. If you choose to open her up, you may gain extra points. Again, looking for superchargers, turbo setups, induction systems, clean wire routing, and of course chrome, paint and polish. If you're going to lift it, clean it!

On a final note, I used to go to Setzers all the time. It was fun at first, but later, he was meeting at Burger King every week. You can (or should) only eat so many Whoppers before your either tired of it or need new clothes!
There was quite a bit going on for the kiddies, but little for those not really into the show (some wives and S.O.'s).
The "awards" were for showing up.
It was nice to come home with a trophy, but when everyone took home a trophy and you had them stacked up, it lost all it's significance.

Those things, combined with Ronnies one time comment about the newer vettes not being welcomed, and his constant yacking on the PA system, finally drove me away:( Haven't been back in several years.

He's been holing them at the old Bennigans on Dale Mabry south of Columbus Dr. for the past year or so IIRC. There's now a new Green Iguana there (one of mine and the wifes favorite places), so I may go back again sometime soon.
At least now, I/we can get away from the noise, go have dinner, listen to some music:dancer01: and relax.

Just some follow up on Rich's comments.

Rich I have like no shiny stuff on mine, and I tend to win all the best corvette and peoples choice award lol.

I do agree that people are CRAZY sometimes with the awards. I always shake me head when I hear about guys getting up in the faces of judges...get a life. I will say though, that when I go to a show, I go to WIN something. I don't expect to win, but I do my best to prep the car. I love the "competition." The best thing you can do, no matter what type of structure you decide on, is to provide a blank scoring sheet to all the pre-registrants...and "day of" people. This way there is no crying about "well I didn't know you would be looking at ________." I still believe that your club members should not be eligible for any judged awards...peoples choice only.

Good points:thumbsup:Know the ground rules from jump and the playing field is level.

I don't know about judged awards though? I guess it depends on who is doing the judging? If it's the host club, then probably not. Independent judges would be a better idea. Even paid, professional judges would be good:thumbsup:

Peoples choice you have to watch ballott stuffing and who has the most people present crap:(

Maybe an award (seen it before) for most in attendance?

As long as the judges aren't judging their own members cars, it shouldn't really matter. I guess the reality is that there's no perfect system.
As far as people's choice, I was at an interesting show this weekend. You BOUGHT votes for $1...and the money raised went to charity...if someone was so desperate to win the "people's choice" award and spent $100 to do it, then so be it...better for charity.
Yes, I've seen awards for "club participation" as well.
Bottom line is that a show should have a nice balance of awards for participants with an eye always towards making a donation to a charity...but the trick is attracting people to come...and awards get people in the door.

I also go for the ride and friendship but my main objective being that my 05 is starting to show its age is to see how many of the newer cars I can beat...

For those that are not interested in the competition and trophies, save the judges some time and write "DO NOT JUDGE" on your dash card...

As Rob aka Backyard Mechanic would say " Don't judge my car. It's too SHINEY!!!" :lmao::lmao::thumbsup:

Speaking of awards...

Ken and Carrie (Kap142) spent Friday evening/night (16th of April) with us here in Titusville, then attended our club event "Vettes at the Port".

Side note #1...Ken and Carrie are two beautiful people (Carrie a bit more so :lmao:), and it was Traci's and my privilege to have had them visit with us!!!

With Ken/Carrie's '72 BB shown, they managed a 3rd place in the C3 class! :dancer01:

And the trophy was signed by an Astronaut...so, it pays to play on this side of the state...:hehehe:

Side note #2...I walked away winning the 50/50...about 380 smackaroos! :hehehe:
