• Got the Contributing Memberships stuff finally worked out and made up a thread as a sort of "How-To" to help people figure out how to participate. So if you need help figuring it out, here's the thread you need to take a look at -> http://www.corvetteflorida.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3581 Thank you, everyone! Rich Z.

Where would you want to go?

I was just reading a thread in the Welcome Forum from a gentleman in Germany planning to visit Florida for the first time, and the thought occurred to me that there are certainly placed in this state that many would consider as MUST SEE to someone else new to the area.

Here's the post that brought this thought to my head, btw -> http://www.corvetteflorida.com/forums/showthread.php?p=72403#post72403

So, I thought a thread on that topic might be worthwhile. What places would you recommend to someone coming into Florida for the first time as ones that you would consider as representative of the *best* that Florida has to offer? Of course, everyone will have differing opinions based on what is of interest to them........

Right off hand, here's my list...
  • The Keys
  • Sanibel Island
  • St. Augustine
  • Destin Beach
  • Longboat Key
  • Siesta Key

Or perhaps even routes to travel that are particularly scenic..

  • Route 98 between Port St. Joe and Pensacola
  • A1A on the east coast
  • Route 41 between Miami and Naples

There's probably more that I will think of later on......

If the person is a motorhead then stop by Sebring, Homestead, Daytona or even Gainesville and Ocala for the Garltis museum

Could kill 2, maybe 3 birds with one stone and go to the keys for fantasy fest, followed by the Parrotheads in Paradise. I think there's even a vette show down there around the same time (October)?

Really depends on what the visitor(s) like? If they're motorheads then as stated, hit Daytona or some of the Motor Parks.

If they like scenery, a run between the 2 coasts through sonme of the forrests and up/down the beaches of A1A might be in order. Also across the Howard Franklin and across the Skyway to Sarasota then down the beaches as you mentioned, stopping for some food and grog along the way:dancer01::dancer01:

Lets see, just to name a few: The Keys, Silver Springs, St. Augustine, and without question the FSU campus:thumbsup::thumbsup:

While you're in Tallahassee at the FSU campus, drop by the Tallahassee Antique Car Museum before you leave. And if you come on a Saturday, you might get in on one of the "cruise nights" that some of the car clubs have at What-A-Burger!

Yep there are a bunch of cruise in's in Tallahassee..

FSU campus is good, Maclay gardens is BEAUTIFUL !!! St George Island is nice if its warm and you like the beach.
Antique care museum is great place to go, lots of NICE stuff there!!
Destin Florida is a nice place to go too, lots to do there.

Since Sarasota was mentioned, the Ringling Estate is a must see.

Myakka State Park.

Arcadia so they can buy some German antiques to take back. :lmao:

For people who have never been to the Keys, the drive from Islamorada to Key West is absolutely stunning, especially the stretch along seven mile bridge!

Yeah, I still remember the old bridge through the keys......

But tell me, how high are the guard rails on the side? One thing I have noticed driving on bridges with the vettes are that you sit so low that often you can't see very much of the scenery. Actually, it often feels that I am driving through a canyon.... :rofl1:

Absolutely! Still waiting for my six digits to come up and it'll be a permanent reality for me.:icon_cheers:

Well, in Central Florida there are a lot of theme parks, so I guess that those should be included. ****loads of people come from Europe and China to go to Disney, so it would be worth at least a look. :hehehe:

If you like planes like I do, then Fantasy of Flight? IDK, that's all I've got.

I'm not much of a beach person, but I'd have to say Ft. Desoto Beach. Check out the actual fort, cannons and all. Take a ferry over to Egmont Key. Great view of the Skyway from the South Beach.

St. Augustine is a must. Hillsborough River State Park. Key West.

For race fans, there is the Daytona 500, the 12 Hours of Sebring and the Honda Grand Prix on the streets of St. Petersburg.

For sports fans we have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, Orlando Magic, Miami Heat, Tampa Bay Rays, Florida Marlins and of course tons of spring training baseball.
