The Dry-sump tank is part of the LS7's crankcase venalation system as the filtered fresh air for crankcase makeup & flushing comes from the airbridge, runs to the dry-sump tank, then to the plumbing going to each valve cover & the gasses & vapors are vented & drawn through the vally cover (as in all the GenIV designs) where they are pulled into the intake to be burned in the combustion process & exhaust.

The same problem exists today as has since the first LS1 engines hit the road.....a PCV system that allows for some oil mist/vapor to enter the intake & contaminate the intake air charge resulting in a less complete combustion process & the resulting carbon build-up on the valves & pistons robbing power & causing detonation to an extent.

Above are pictures of the bellows & the inside of the intake showing the amount (this Z has 10k miles on it).

Road course guy's already know of the issue since they run at extended periods of high RPM's causing this to be even more evedent.

RevXtreme is designing a complete easy to install kit using our 1 Qt oil seperating catch can with integrated PCV check valve & the correct plumbing with additional check valves that will allow the flow to run in one direction only & relocating the filtered fresh air source to a seperate remote breather eliminating this issue.

I wanted to add a picture of the kit referred to. I had it installed yesterday.

A good friend of mine is a moderator over on one of the Lexus forums and those vehicles in particular see this issue with a lot of carbon buildup in their intake manifolds and some use Seafoam which if not used right can have the unintended consequences of fouling up plugs and even frying and ignition coil (those P0300 codes and such). However, a few smart ones have done exactly this, gone to an oil catch can with a breather filter and avoided the issue altogether.

The design is still the same & yes, overfilling will result in it happening every time. But the real issue for those not overfilled is a re-designed system to prevent it no matter what type of driving done (as long as the tank is not overfilled) and that is what we did. Track & street proven & a very inexpensive mod. As long as it is designed to dump into the intake bellows if there is an issue there will be oil in the intake. And oil does not burn well in the combustion chamber thus less power is produced from each event & the resulting carbon build-up over time reduces the velocity (volumetric efficiency) of the flow into, through, and out of the chamber. The reason GM cannot use the same mod we do would be emissions. Even the new super charged Mercedes we are modding has this issue so it is not GM specific. As long as each car is not hand built & optimized in every area there will be plenty of areas for improvment.:thumbsup:
