427 engine (part 2) - RHS block

Well, I still haven't heard anything from Aaron, so I'm thinking a tag saying "SCRAP" might be getting top billing.

I talked to Aaron yesterday (Tuesday) to check in and get status of my car.

He had good news and bad news for me.

The good news: They put in the TAC module and a new PCM and started over from scratch with the tuning using HPTuners. Aaron said he has driven the car about a 100 miles with no issues cropping up. So perhaps the destructing PCM problem is now over with.

The bad news: Jim had to run back home because of some issue he had to deal with there. And he is concerned with that storm (Emily) heading this way. He was tentatively planning on coming back up to Thomasville on Friday, but the storm may put the kibosh on that plan.

Oh, interesting factoid: Come August 7th, my car will have been at Aaron's shop the same amount of time it was at Harwood's shop. Just shy of 11 months for each.

GD-NZ-BD-NZ would work as a plate (good news-bad news)
Andy :wavey:
and the thread continues.................
Looks like harwood was REALLY capable of messing up cars with the best of them!

I'm still not sure which of us is going to be done first. With 100 miles logged you're up on me, but I think I'm not far behind. :)

Wow, Dave, I just figured your car was running and you were too busy driving it to let us know.

What issues are you running into?

yes inquiring minds want to know. Dave I remember how awesome your c6 is going to be and would love to know how it is coming along.

As I said before when I get home from work I come here to check and see what is going on pop a brew and destress while I :munching_out:

It's just a slow process. It's a "long term project" at the shop, so it gets worked on when other jobs permit. I can't afford to pay full rate for the amount of labor it has eaten up, it would be way, way into 5 figures. Indeed, few shops can charge full rate on jobs this large, and hence shops that take them on have to be very careful that they don't bankrupt themselves on these "money losers". Many, many otherwise-good shops have gone under from taking on too much of this sort of work.

So, since I can't "buy" my way to the top of the priority list, it's slow. And there's also the fact that many of Greg's customers need their cars for transportation, whereas I don't. So Greg works on their stuff first. A shop like LPE has such a large staff that they can do some big jobs at the same time they're doing the normal smaller ones (plus they have rich customers). Greg has one other guy (and I'm broke).

We have had several problems with alignment on the blower drive. Then there was a bad issue with bad grounds causing the car to die intermittently. And then there have been problems getting the tune done, as the injectors are so much larger than stock. "Normal" tuning tricks won't work on this deal.

The good news is, the electrical problem appears fixed, we think the blower drive problems are fixed, and it now starts and idles quite nicely. So it's just about ready to start test-driving again and working the tune. This is going to take a while, because it's hard for me to get up there and help. We've moved to Sarasota and it's 50 miles each way now.

It sounds like an absolute monster. If you have Facebook, check this out: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=179903278741900

Yeah, I know what you mean about the "broke" thing. Mine has gone WAY over budget. It's gotten to the point that I can't afford to sell it as I would lose too much money.

Sounds like you may be getting close to getting it done, though. Of course, tuning might take a while to get it right. Sounds like Greg had to start from scratch with the tune, starting with the injectors and working his way up from there. Jim Smith had to do the same thing with mine. First called the manufacturer of the injectors and got the specs on them before he did anything.

Do you happen to have that video on YouTube? I probably have a FaceBook account somewhere around here, but honestly it's not my cup of tea.

Hope you get your car back home soon. I know the aggravation you are going through having to pay insurance all this time and this nagging sense of something being missing.

The video actually was taken by Greg's assistant, Kyle. I'm waiting to hear back from him as to whether I can have a copy to post up. I'm sure it'll be fine, but I don't want to do it without his permission. I'll post back once it's on YouTube.

I hear that.

Here it is on YouTube: http://youtu.be/iqsY8PHrGRw

FYI, you can imbed YouTube links here....

Sounds REAL nice!

Pretty radical sounding cam you got there. :hehehe:

Does Greg have a feel for what sort of horsepower it will be putting to the ground when he is done?

Hopefully soon you't be driving it. I know it's GOT to be killing you... :peelout 1:

Based on my calculations, I'm hoping for/expecting about 650/675 in "street" tune with the big pulley at about 9-10 psi with water injection. Later I'm expecting 825 or so in "race" tune with the small pulley at 15 psi with meth injection. It's all pretty conservative. It's not going to be the fastest/highest HP car around, not by a long shot. I can't afford to play that game (think: millionaires). OTOH, I'm expecting to be able to drive it as a real car, or at least that's how it was designed. Go as far as possible but remain streetable, reliable, and durable, and no farther. We'll see.

Yeah, I know what you mean. All the power in the world isn't going to do you a damn bit of good if it breaks down every couple of weeks. I would be satisfied with 650/675 rwhp on my own car. Anything more than that and you'll probably be changing rear tires as often as you change your oil... :rofl1:
