It's just a slow process. It's a "long term project" at the shop, so it gets worked on when other jobs permit. I can't afford to pay full rate for the amount of labor it has eaten up, it would be way, way into 5 figures. Indeed, few shops can charge full rate on jobs this large, and hence shops that take them on have to be very careful that they don't bankrupt themselves on these "money losers". Many, many otherwise-good shops have gone under from taking on too much of this sort of work.
So, since I can't "buy" my way to the top of the priority list, it's slow. And there's also the fact that many of Greg's customers need their cars for transportation, whereas I don't. So Greg works on their stuff first. A shop like LPE has such a large staff that they can do some big jobs at the same time they're doing the normal smaller ones (plus they have rich customers). Greg has one other guy (and I'm broke).
We have had several problems with alignment on the blower drive. Then there was a bad issue with bad grounds causing the car to die intermittently. And then there have been problems getting the tune done, as the injectors are so much larger than stock. "Normal" tuning tricks won't work on this deal.
The good news is, the electrical problem appears fixed, we think the blower drive problems are fixed, and it now starts and idles quite nicely. So it's just about ready to start test-driving again and working the tune. This is going to take a while, because it's hard for me to get up there and help. We've moved to Sarasota and it's 50 miles each way now.
It sounds like an absolute monster. If you have Facebook, check this out:
