Crappy weather....

Good Lord, man! What are you psychic or something? I just looked at the weather radar and I swear that it looks like SNOW heading our way from the west right now. Showing snow in southwestern Alabama right this moment. Wouldn't that be a kick in the teeth to wake up to snow on the ground tomorrow morning? :ack2:

Wow! I see what you're talking about. Louisiana, Miss., and Alabama are getting snow and freezing rain! Well, the Farmers Almanac did say we'd see frozen precipitation all the way to the Gulf coast this year.

At least it should freeze all of the puddles and you "should" be able to get
one or two of the vettes out. :rofl1: I'm afraid to touch mine for fear that
it will shatter!
Andy :wavey:

So, all day today the prediction was for the overnight low to be 21*. Then around 4pm or so, they changed it to 22*. So Connie and I broke out the tarps and were covering as many citrus trees as we could. Checking the forecast at 10:30 they changed the forecast to 30 degrees. :banghead: What the heck good does a "forecast" do at that time? The idea of a forecast is so you can prepare for it. I swear, they must pay those guys a LOT of money. Otherwise who on earth would want to go through life with the stigma of being a weatherman attached to them and being the laughingstock of the world? They probably get gag gifts for Christmas, like compasses that point due South instead of North, or watches that NEVER tell the correct time.

Yeah, tell me about it. We have to drain some water lines and drip 25 others here to keep from busting pipes. It's quite a chore to turn these on and off twice a day when they are spread out across 113 acres. We were expecting 21* and it only got to 34* last night. On the other hand a few weeks ago they forecast 34* and when I got up at 6 AM it was already 31* so I had to hustle out and turn water on. Luckily I got the slush out before it caused problems. I wish they were a tad better on the accuracy.

Yeah, my min/max thermometer on the porch shows that it never dropped below 38.5* last night. They were WAY off on that one. Heck, don't they even look at the radar screens? The radar screens show cloud cover, and cloud cover usually means warmer temps underneath.

Well they are calling for a low of 20* now for Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Let's see how far off they are on that one.

But now Connie and I have to fold up all those tarps and put them away before they get rained on. Not really good to cover plants with wet tarps.

Did you buy a farm up there near Tallahassee? Didn't realize you had so much land.

My brother got this place a few years before I left the Sheriff's Office. It has a beautiful 3000 sq ft brick home on a hill overlooking the property. He said he had no use for the house and asked me if I wanted to live here so I sold my house in Wakulla and moved here about three years ago. I help out with some light maintenance and mowing and such. It's the best of both worlds. I'm very secluded yet close to Tallahassee. My brother runs a horse boarding/training facility here and we usually have 45-50 horses at any given time plus with the interstate just a mile or so away he has an overnight boarding facility for those traveling through. The business has been very good to him and he's been very good to me!

Everyone must know this trivia :Record low for Tallahassee was 1899 and the daytime low was -2 which occurred in February.Florida ski resorts we're booming :D

I recall reading that. The coldest I've been exposed to was in Jacksonville and I believe it was in 1983 when it was 9* and my only transportation at the time was a motorcycle. I was almost numb by the time I got to work that morning.
I was here in Tallahassee for the record high in July of 2010 when it hit 105* too. I was working at the Ford dealership as a service writer two months after I retired from the Sheriff's Office.
I could handle the record cold better than the record heat. Don't get me wrong, I don't like to be cold, but I certainly hate sweating all over everything worse. I enjoy going outside at this time of year and working in the yard without breaking a sweat. I chopped firewood yesterday afternoon for about 20-30 minutes and it was great! I really love the weather here from about October till May. If I can survive June, July, August, and September I'll be OK. That's the mowing season here and it can darn sure get miserably hot when the humidity moves in.
My Dad was smart. Back when he was still living he would load up the fifth wheel and leave in May and come back in October! He would go to Canada or Idaho, Montana. He called me from Colorado one June and told me it was snowing and 40*! He really enjoyed rubbing that in, he knew how much I despised the heat.

Well, they are kind of hinting around about snow, freezing rain, sleet, or other more northerly winter problems concerning precipitation. Temperature has dropped a couple of degrees just since I got up this morning. And it appears that the winds are coming from the south ahead of the cold front, so that should be WARMER weather being brought up from the Gulf. They modified the overnight lows quite a bit to not be as bad as they were forecasting earlier. But still, I think the next couple of days would be an excellent time to try out hibernating like bears do. Guess I should have taken out one of the cars over the last couple of days when I had the chance. Looks like rain scattered here and there over then next 10 days.

On the bright side, looked at the temps across the rest of the country... :ack2: So yeah, it doesn't seem quite so bad here.

Raining right now. Sister in law in Panama City said it was snowing out there.

Barely cracked the 50* mark today. Low is expected to only go down to 33*, so not too bad. They are calling for a high of only 36* tomorrow and a low of 26* overnight. :ack2:

Ah, correction... The sister-in-law lives in Destin..... :shrug01:

Well, now they are calling for a high of only 33 and a low of 27 overnight tomorrow. Sheesh........ There is now going to be a new two word one liner that a standup comedian can use on stage: "Global warming."
