Rain today

DRY!!!! And not just dry, but HOT and DRY. Got up to 96.8 degrees at the weather station today. Watering all the flowers and fruit trees. Maybe some rain around Memorial Day, but not holding my breath.

Not one drop of rain this month. Just like i said months ago i would be lucky to get any rain so far this year. Been the worst ever. None in Jan or March as well.

We were doing OK with rain up to about 2 weeks ago, and then it just stopped dead in it's tracks. Bad for the fruit trees and other plants, but good for us waiting to get our roof replaced and that leaking section won't be leaking so much. I worked on it some more, but haven't had any rain since then.

The way my luck runs, we will get days (perhaps the entire week) of torrential downpours when we are scheduled to have the roof work done.

That being said, I sure as heck wouldn't want to be up on that metal roof as hot as it has been lately.

We had a rain storm roar through early AM today. We got a whopping 0.04" of rain out of it. Some small percentage chances of rain next week, but nothing to count on concerning appreciable precipitation.

Just wish this dry weather would dry up those blasted yellow flies. We really can't do all that much outside until they go away. They have a bite that you just cannot ignore.

I saw a yellow last week in my yard. They like early AM or late PM. No rain at all in around 6 weeks.

The yellow flies are out around here all day long. Sometimes I think the higher temperatures during mid day get them more active, and other times I think they do like the cooler hours at dawn and dusk. Does seem that during the hot part of the day that they are more common in shaded areas. Connie and I carry our bug zappers whenever we are out, and I think I have gotten the equivalence of tennis wrist from using mine so much.

We had some trees taken out near the house and the old reptile building so there is some cleanup that needs to be done, mostly from exposed roots and small stumps from machinery running through our woods. But that will be a two handed job, and we just cannot use both hands and not have a zapper at the ready for the yellow flies.

The other day I stopped along route 319 to buy some watermelons from a truck parked there and the guy just blurted out to me, "Do you know how to get rid of these damned yellow flies?" I told him that you really just need to wait out the season for them, as it seems that when you kill one, two more pop up in it's place. We are using the hand held zappers, have a couple of mosquito magnets running, and have hung out some black and blue plastic buckets sprayed with something called "Tanglefoot" that causes the flies to stick to the buckets when they land on them. They are all taking down quite a number of flies, but certainly not all of them.

I guess it doesn't help that one of our neighbors cut down a large area of trees on their property and now have a cattle farm there. :(

Well, we got a REAL downpour today. 3.23" of rain.

Looks like the rest of this upcoming week might bring more.

It does seem that the general forecast in some areas of Florida is "Severe drought conditions, with widely scattered flooding."

Connie was outside this morning and she says she didn't see even one yellow fly the entire time. Maybe they all drowned or got beaten to death by the rain yesterday.

We got 0.47" more rain on Saturday.

I guess if we get in the mode of raining every day, mosquitoes will be entering the stage pretty soon.

Not to mention that our getting a new roof installed might be a problem considering rain showers.

We got 0.55" of rain today. Had a brief shower yesterday that only amounted to 0.05".

0.56" of rain today. Looks like we will be in for more over the next several days.

Not sure what is going to happen with the new roof install scheduled for Monday. I think it will get called off on account of rain.

Yeah, it looks like it is moving out, but according to ventusky.com there will be storms coming through here nearly every day next week.

I am not sure what the roofers will do. Will they work in between rain storms, or just call the day a washout? If it is raining here, pretty much it would likely be raining elsewhere nearby, so I don't think going to a different job would work out well for them. But I just don't know how they will work this out.

We cleared out the stuff underneath the carport in front of the house, so they could store the metal roll former there out of the rain.

Honestly, they couldn't have picked a worst week (so far) to plan on doing the roof. But that is usually how my luck works out. I'm just hoping they don't damage something else doing the roof as seems to be standard for just about anyone else who has ever done any work around here. :dead:
