Last night after leaving the party we headed back over to the in-laws lake house in Haines City to spend the night.

On some dark assed back road near Lake Lowery that twists like a snakes back...we got lucky.

Cruising along about 35-40 or so, little Buffet on the CD, when the wife decides to distract me with some sort of verbal BS:rolleyes:....I look away for a second...look forward and all I see is fence line and pasture!!

There's nowhere to go and not much time/distance to react...only thing left to do....is drive!

So I drove!!

Fortunately several things kicked in simultaneously:

1) My LEO background and tactical driving skills kicked in immediately and totally responsively.

2) The front wheel drive of the Jap ride (Scion) did it's job:thumbsup: (Good thing it wasn't driving one of our RWD toys or the outcome would have been much different:nonod:)

3) It wasn't my/our day to die!

I jabbed the brakes for a millisecond to disrupt the cars momentum, cranked the wheel as it hit the shoulder (Almost forgot what a crappy feeling "sliding " was:thumbsdown:) and got back into the throttle!

The car started to slide sideways then spin counter clockwise with the flat end trying to change position with the pointy end

Countered that little obsticle, then the SOB wanted to head back for the damned fence line!!

More left rudder please!!:rofl1:

Stayed on the throttle and could feel the front tires trying to maintain traction and directional control over the inertia of the rear coming around.

The right amont of throttle, just enough counter steer (in both directions) and just enough shoulder to avert the need to be picking splinters out of God knows where today.

As you all know, I had 2 drinks early on in the day, then stopped. Water/sodas after that. I'm thankful for that. I would not have wanted to attempt this little manuever under the influence.:nonod:

I still have no idea where we were other than somewhere near Lake Lowrey (Ken/Carrie probably know the area better than I) as I was following the GPS.

Now, this road would be a hoot in the daylight in a vette, but Damn!!

I can still see the fence posts and cattle wire filling the drivers view (everything else was pitch black!) and the fence posts clicking by inches from the passenger side.

Events like this do a lot of things. One of those things is they make you think.

Think of friends, family, life in general and of course the inevitable..."what if's?" I was very thankful that the grand daughter was not riding right rear shotgun that night.

Moments like this make you thankful for a lot of things and hopefully, one learns from them.

I know I did. I learned my lesson....I immediately stopped listening to the wife:lmao::lmao:

BTW...anyone know a good detailer? I'm still trying to get that smell out of the seats!:lmao:

Fortunately I can say...

Later.:wavey:

I would love to take a police driving school just for these type of knowledgeable tactics. Awesome job. I "somewhat" wish my previous fwd car would of acted like that, but then again I wouldnt have my dream ride right now.

Now if the story would be a little long, include a shoot out and something getting broken/injured..we'd have ourselves a blockbuster movie. :hehehe:

Gordon, I'm glad you and Lemora are OK. Great reflexes on your part for sure. You certainly have the gift of the gab for a story. I can see you as an author!!! Think about it.:thumbsup:

Eh...I think I'll pass on the bullets and broken bones if you don't mind:rofl1:

Jeez-us,I'd hated to be there!!My hands are sweeting and I've got skid marks in my shorts just reading about it!!:willy_nilly::willy_nilly::willy_nilly:
Glad you made it alright!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks guys, me too;)

The entire incident was over in a few seconds but as with most critical incidents, it felt like forever.

And there's that that "Slo-mo" feeling you get when thing go ugly. Your senses tend to shut down and you go into auto pilot.

Well, that was it. Nice and slow. Very smooth and quiet quiet....eery...

You know Junk. For once, I wish I still had my in car camera hooked up.

That would have been a good video (besides, then I could probably hear all the bad things she was calling me right about then:lmao:)

Well I'll be damned, you did learn from those emergency vehicle ops classes. They said you just sat in the back row and slept behind the motorman shades but I said no, no not Gordon. I stood up for you.

Ya know sometimes somebody is just watching and guiding (and gawd knows you need watching and guiding.):lmao::lmao:

God bless my brother. Stay safe

Smart arse!:nanana:

Nah, I even kept on teaching after I went to motors.

Only slept behind the shades at lunch:lmao:

Funny thing though. I drove a car about 30 days out of the year. The rest of the time I was straddling the Harley....

That was a hell of a party my friends. Can't wait for the next one!

Holy ****, and I mean that. Glad you are OK. Training is the difference.

Damn, Gordon..... Glad you pulled that out of the fire......... First rule of listening to a passenger is to listen with your ears and not with your eyes.... :D

I know. It was something she said and I (like an idiot!) decided i needed to look at a setting to make a point.

Point made! Feck the guages! Lesson learned:thumbsup:

Damn, glad to hear that you were able to avoid a crash. And sorry to hear about your pants.:lmao:

But for the record, Polk County fences are nothing in the face of a speeding automobile. So I doubt that you'd get hurt, but your wallet wouldn't be so lucky..

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

First.. I sure am glad you two are okay!!

Second.. WTF:sillyme: ! I let you drive me to my hotel???!!!:hehehe:

WTH....No curves just turns, flat road, broad daylight..oh, and no one yapping at me in the front seat:rofl1::rofl1:

You're safe:thumbsup:

I am going to let my wife read your story. Maybe she will stop the backseat driving. :lmao::lmao:

Glad you are ok and can tell the story without any harm to your wife, you and the car.

So Gordon, other than Yabba Yabba Do, what did Lemora have to say after all the excitement? :hehehe::hehehe::lmao:
