Last night after leaving the party we headed back over to the in-laws lake house in Haines City to spend the night.
On some dark assed back road near Lake Lowery that twists like a snakes back...we got lucky.
Cruising along about 35-40 or so, little Buffet on the CD, when the wife decides to distract me with some sort of verbal BS
....I look away for a second...look forward and all I see is fence line and pasture!!
There's nowhere to go and not much time/distance to react...only thing left to do....is drive!
So I drove!!
Fortunately several things kicked in simultaneously:
1) My LEO background and tactical driving skills kicked in immediately and totally responsively.
2) The front wheel drive of the Jap ride (Scion) did it's job:thumbsup: (Good thing it wasn't driving one of our RWD toys or the outcome would have been much different:nonod
3) It wasn't my/our day to die!
I jabbed the brakes for a millisecond to disrupt the cars momentum, cranked the wheel as it hit the shoulder (Almost forgot what a crappy feeling "sliding " was:thumbsdown
and got back into the throttle!
The car started to slide sideways then spin counter clockwise with the flat end trying to change position with the pointy end
Countered that little obsticle, then the SOB wanted to head back for the damned fence line!!
More left rudder please!!:rofl1:
Stayed on the throttle and could feel the front tires trying to maintain traction and directional control over the inertia of the rear coming around.
The right amont of throttle, just enough counter steer (in both directions) and just enough shoulder to avert the need to be picking splinters out of God knows where today.
As you all know, I had 2 drinks early on in the day, then stopped. Water/sodas after that. I'm thankful for that. I would not have wanted to attempt this little manuever under the influence.:nonod:
I still have no idea where we were other than somewhere near Lake Lowrey (Ken/Carrie probably know the area better than I) as I was following the GPS.
Now, this road would be a hoot in the daylight in a vette, but Damn!!
I can still see the fence posts and cattle wire filling the drivers view (everything else was pitch black!) and the fence posts clicking by inches from the passenger side.
Events like this do a lot of things. One of those things is they make you think.
Think of friends, family, life in general and of course the inevitable..."what if's?" I was very thankful that the grand daughter was not riding right rear shotgun that night.
Moments like this make you thankful for a lot of things and hopefully, one learns from them.
I know I did. I learned my lesson....I immediately stopped listening to the wife:lmao::lmao:
BTW...anyone know a good detailer? I'm still trying to get that smell out of the seats!:lmao:
Fortunately I can say...
Later.:wavey:
