427 engine (part 2) - RHS block

I just got back from the shop. Didn't stay there long. Quite honestly it made me feel sick in my stomach seeing my car up on the lift and parts strewn here and there again. Seriously, I got flushed with feelings of disgust and down right nausea just looking at the car. They were having some problems with some of the bolts holding the timing chain cover in place. The ones attaching it to the oil pan are a bugger to get to, and one of them has been rounded off. These bolts are polished stainless steel ones I bought a while back with allen wrench centers. In any event no way Chris was going to get back to tuning the car today. Maybe not even by Monday.

So instead of standing around the shop thinking about how that car would look with a FOR SALE sign plastered to the windshield, I just came home instead.

I emailed Bryan at LME about this, since realistically this is his problem, but so far no response.

Did you ever get a response from Bryan? Sorry to hear about the new problem.

No, never heard back from him. I only sent the one email, so perhaps he didn't get it. He's usually pretty good about return correspondence. But perhaps he is just sick and tired of hearing about this car like all the rest of us are right now.

At least you have another nice custom billet bracket! Wish I was closer to help you more than I am.

Yes you are right. I'm going to try to find time this evening to polish it up. Not sure why I still have this polishing compulsion.... I would have thought I would have burned that out with the cradles.

Hi Rich I got out there about 10:20 and no one was there but all the shop doors were open.I could have made off with alot of parts in the 10 min I was there alone before Justin came back from the parts store. Sure makes me feel safe having my car there...I didn't think you would feel very good the way your car was still in pieces.Hope mine will be done by Christmas.

What ya having done? New engine?

had to have my 383 LS1 stroker rebalanced. It's been there since 9Mar and only has the short block back in. Rich's car comes first to get finished then mine I hope.

Well, since I already hijacked Rich's thread earlier...

We're gettin' there.

These are just "in progress" pictures. Everything will be prettied up before it's done.

Here are some pics of the RPS BC3 clutch, and the Quick Time SFI bellhousing.

Looks like it is coming together pretty well, Dave. How close is it to being finished?

Well, as I'm not allowed to say at work (even though, or maybe especially, because it's true), it will take how long it takes and it will cost what it costs. :)

But my guess is 3-4 weeks more. Greg is motivated to get it done because it's holding up other things he wants to get to.

It won't be long now, your in good hands. My hardest working ex-tech has been working on it, glad Greg picked him up. You can count on him. Your doing it right and I'm impressed with the choice of components. Car is going to be unreal.

Well my short block is in finally. Guess no more work on it until Rich has his car back.Hope that will real soon Rich. I was surprised on Fri when I went out there and your car was in pieces again. I know how you must have felt when you saw it. Any word from Chris on when he will be doing the start up and tune? Will keep my fingers crossed that it will be this week.

I'm not sure but I think Thunder has a car there also. Hope all of you get on the road real soon.

I talked to Chris this morning and he said he didn't expect to have my car back together again until perhaps Thursday morning. I'm not sure why it would take so long. :shrug01: How long does it normally take to put a timing chain cover back on with the stuff associated with something like that? I'm wondering if I may have slipped down the priority list again. :toetap05: Of course, that then leads to the question of what exactly HAS gone past me to the top of that list?

I know one thing for sure. I would not want to be working on a different car and let Rich catch me if I was Chris. I thought the next explosion I heard about would be Iran's reactor going up in smoke but maybe it could be Rich at the shop. :rofl1:

To remove & replace a timing chain cover on a vette the rack must be removed, or at least moved out of the way, the dampner has to be pulled, and then it is pretty easy.

The rack is the biggest headache with the task.
