427 engine (part 2) - RHS block

I agree with palmbeachvette76. It seems very clear that you must have a very special loving caring wife who has supported you in this quest so far. I am sure she has given you encouragement when you needed it. The real winner's here are the two of you who have endured the results of a less than professional build and the required clean up of previous shoddy work. So my hats off to the two of you.

Man, that is the absolute truth. Even when I wanted nothing more than to just blow that car to bits, Connie was the one telling me everything will be OK. Most wives would have been all in favor of getting rid of the car and the drain on the finances but she just wouldn't let me do that. She was the one saying that we just have to pay whatever it takes to finish it. Hell, this last stint alone having the engine pulled and the piston replaced cost us another $2K. She didn't even bat an eye when I told her what to expect on the credit card statement this month.

I can say with absolute certainty that marrying that girl was the best thing that I have ever done in my life.

:iagree: It is nice to have someone support you when everything else is going to hell.

Rich, haven't been around much, work has been kickin my butt. anyway, John Mcgee (AutoMasters IIRC) is as good and honest as Aaron. he is the man with the Cadillac Northstar Motors if you ever decide to get you an ole Cadillac one day.

What was decided on the turbo's? i should have some free time in the next couple weekends and can coat them the same color the others were, i haven't ordered the cera-chrome because once i got setup as a dealer and factory direct they wanted as much for shipping as they did for the product, i could buy it cheaper shipped from another company that was acting as their middle man.... i guess when you buy in volume it make a big difference in price.

anyway, looks like you are on the right path now, when you leave SGC and turn on 319, hit it and hold it and leave a couple long black marks so when i drive by i will know it was your car that left them there.....

EDIT, remember the initial startup video's where there was some "noise" that noone could figure out what it was? what are the odds it was whatever was in #7?

Yeah, that very well could be. Seems to me I recall Harwood basically saying the noise just stopped with no explanation. I guess that event is in this "log" somewhere... But on the other hand, the rocker arms were hitting on the plenum side of the rocker arms, so that was making some noise as well. Those valve covers were completely wrong for my engine. They were too tall and too narrow. Not to mention too flimsy.

Aaron told me that they recovered the washer (or perhaps ONE of them) that had wound up in the plenum of the intake manifold. Seems kind of odd that it would go back up through the intake valve, but nothing was discovered in the exhaust side. I figured it would be in front of one of the cats. So it either went back up the intake port or there was more than one, with this second one waiting in the wings to wind up inside another cylinder. Hopefully Aaron has it so I can look at it. If it looks like it's been beat around by a piston, then I'll think it was the one that did damage and it was just a fluke that it got pushed up into the intake. If no damage, then this was another one of at least two that got into my engine.

As for the turbo coating, I'm just going to hold off for now on doing anything that complicates my getting the car back onto the road. Obviously this didn't even cross my mind while the engine was being pulled..... :shrug01:

As for leaving burn marks on 319, heck no. The way my luck has been running with this car, I'll either wrap it around a telephone pole, or cops will be sitting right there out of sight somewhere eating donuts when I go roaring by.

That's ok, I am here if you need me, and I got my names and shops mixes up, john mcgee is over on indusrtial drive, he is an oldskool type of guy, the Automaster isn't him but they are the Cadillac guys. They are on jackson street...

Anyways, whenever you want it done I'll git-r-did.....

Heck, Aaron took me over to the guy's shop to meet him, but I really didn't pay much attention where the shop is located. I didn't think I would need to go there another time. The guy seemed down to earth, and indicated that he was familiar with Chris Harwood.

Ah well, hopefully I'll hear from Aaron on Monday and get an idea of what's on the agenda for this week.

HA-HA-HA :lmao: The mental picture I get is of Jackie Gleason (in Smokey and The Bandit) sitting in his cruiser, eating donuts , with crumbs all down the front of him, then you go blasting by in a blur of blue and a cloud of smoke, and him trying to get himself going after you! :rofl1::rofl1: THAT.......made my day!

Anyone think my car will REALLY be finished this week? :crazy03:

Sure wish I had solicited wagers....... Aaron says that Jim Smith won't be able to resume the tuning this week, so it's delayed till next week.

Maybe a vanity plate is in order. Something like RNARND, for run around which is what you've been getting, and what you will be doing with the C5Z when you get it back. :D:thumbsup:

My question is this. Would it be better to put a few miles on the car as is so it has some break in time on the motor before you finish the tune. That way you would have the clutch seated and the rings. You also would know a lot more about the condition of the whole package and what else might need tweaking next week.

Yeah, but I don't think the car has ever really been "done" enough to where I could bring it home. There was always something else wrong with it. For instance, Aaron told me that when he was bringing the car back from the other shop, it suddenly started acting like it was running on only 7 cylinders.

Crap like that has been the rule, rather than the exception.

Plugs not indexed for the piston stroke. The ground strap of the electrode needs to be up to allow for plenty of clearance. Not uncommon on big boost/big cube motors. This is not so easy if the heads take tapered plugs but unless I'm mistaken yours takes compression ring plugs and can be indexed.

I've heard of plug indexing before, in reference to directing the gap towards the center of the cylinder, but didn't know it was a requirement in any instance because of clearance issues.

Aaron, hasn't looked at my car yet, so I don't know what is going on. :banghead:

Serves both purposes. Equal spark directed at the center of the piston but more importantly is the clearance and after market performance builds.
