C5 Brake problems???

Guro305

Heathen
Ok, I've been hearing this sound for a couple days now. After about fifteen to twenty minutes of driving, I hear this sound coming from my passengers side rear.

I stop at the stop sign one block from home and as you slow down the sound gets louder. It sounds almost like a squeeking, grinding sound that gets more profound the closer you get to a complete stop. I know it's brake related cause at the stop sign, I would fully depress the brakes and I could actually hear the rear passenger side brake pressing down.

I felt the rotors and they were hot!!! So I waited about ten minutes and felt them again and they felt smooth all around. I checked the brake fluid and it was almost full so I added a few ounces to the line and went out for a drive the next day. Samething this morning. It was perfectly fine until about twenty minutes of driving (all city driving I may add). Once I got closer to home, samething again. Opinions please.....:) pads, rotor, caliper????:shrug01:

My guess would be your calipers might be sticking. 20min worth of a driving and a stuck caliper would def heat up a rotor. Are the pads on the brake corner same thickness as the other side?

I'll check it tomorrow and let you know. I drove it all this afternoon, all highway driving and it didn't do it so.........

Both rotors are about the same thickness. Maybe a milimeter here or there but thats about it. :shrug01:

How are the brake pads though?

Last time the brake fluid was changed/flushed? Possible kink in the brake line?

Surprised none of our *cough cough* techies havent chimed in, I know Tracy and his wife are on a cruise till wed/thur I think.

That's the next logical step I guess. I've never changed the pads.

Do the calipers use regular bolts or are they those stupid T-type bolts that old GM cars used to use?
