Car is in the shop for more power, good news so far!

My car is in at AntiVenom for its first batch of serious mods:

  • American Racing 1 3/4" headers & high-flow metal matrix cats. I already have two-tip B&B Bullets.
  • Callaway Honker cold air intake (thanks RevXtreme!)
  • Ported throttle body
  • De-screened MAF sensor
  • 180 degree thermostat
  • NLP catch can
  • Kirban shifter
  • Tunnel plate insulation (already have Elite's Abs of Steel)
  • Dyno tune

I called Greg today to talk about some aspects of this and he told me he had already done the baseline dyno pulls:

325 rwhp, 343 rwt!

I am very happy. Very nice numbers for an LS1 car that is bone-stock except for the catback.

I don't post this to brag, because I sure didn't do anything to get those numbers, but just to share how tickled I am with my Corvette brothers and sisters. :D

Further reports once the work is completed. We will have dyno runs after mods but before tune, and also after tune. If the weather cooperates I plan to take it to Bradenton on Sunday to see what she'll do. I've never run this car at the track before and I'm hoping for my first-ever 12-second timeslip. We'll see!

Awesome! I'll be watching this post as to see what your result numbers will be. Sounds like the same direction i want to go eventuallly...

Awesome Gannet:dancer01: Good luck with your run my friend!!!

  The headers are going to add substantially to the exhaust sound your car makes. It's certainly going to turn heads...... :D

Congrats on the Upgrades:thumbsup: .Please keep us posted.Would love to see those numbers :yesnod:

Congrats on the new mods! How does one get in touch with the Anti Venom guys? They come highly recommended by some members but I get disconnect messages when I try to call......:shrug01:

Bear with them, they are a small shop. :) They are changing their phone service from Verizon to Vonage and it hasn't been completed yet. For now, the best way is to call Greg on his cellphone. Number is in this thread. Tell him the Proving Ground guy sent ya. :D

Way to go Gannet! I can't wait to see what type of numbers you pull on the dyno and the track. Keep us updated.

Boy, you're not just a-kiddin! I didn't really think it would make that much of a difference. I'm not sure I like it. It's not so much that's it's louder (it is), but that the tone has changed a lot. It's more raspy and nasal now, whereas the Bullets on stock manifolds was just pure musclecar rumble. The drone has also gone from mild to rattle-body-panels-ridiculous. I'm going to have to drive it some more and see, but I suspect the Tis may be going back on.

The dyno and trap speed numbers were very good, almost LS6 territory. Further report with graphs later tonight.

Results

I hope folks won't mind too much if I cut&paste the post I made over at the Big Forum:

Got my car back today, thought folks might be interested in the results. We started with a 2002 LS1 coupe, MN6, 3.42, bone stock except for B&B Bullets. The following mods were done:

American Racing 1 3/4" headers, hi-flow cats, and x-pipe
Callaway Honker CAI
Ported throttle body (porter unknown, my tuner had it and offered it cheap)
De-screened MAF
180 thermostat
Dyno tune
All work done by Greg at Anti-Venom, Seffner Florida. Thanks to A&A for the headers and RevXtreme for the Honker.

324 rwhp, 343 rwtq, baseline
344.5 rwhp, 362 rwtq, with mods, before tune
351 rwhp, 364 rwtq, with mods and tune
(all values SAE)

Graph below.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the numbers. The baseline numbers seem excellent for a stock LS1. I was hoping for a bit more gain for all the money spent (altogether well over $3k) but I can't complain about the power.

I drove it straight from the shop to the track. I was only able to get one pass in. Don't laugh too hard, it was my first "4-speed" 1/4 pass in about 25 years and I flubbed it pretty badly, but the trap speed shows that the car is laying down the power indicated above:

1.108 RT
2.635 60'
9.294 1/8
86.95 1/8 MPH
13.70 1/4
112.4 1/4 MPH

I'm thinking hard about going back tomorrow and trying to get a 12-second timeslip, which would be my first in a 4-wheeler. It certainly has the power to do it, the question is the driver.

I also had a Kirban shifter installed and I LOVE IT! Really nice, much better mod than I expected.

I thought you would have numbers a little higher. I guess I really didn't get much better than you did. I had my Corsa's on and got a baseline of about 335 RWHP on my '01 Z06. I'm at about 370 at the wheels now. I need to get a new dyno run done. Last one I had, the temp was over 96*.

I'm probably gonna go with a cam sometime next year. Probably do a couple of other things too. Maybe a hardened output shaft, who knows.

Well, I didn't think my overall numbers would be higher, but I thought my baseline would be lower and my gains larger. I spent extra for the current-hot-premium parts and can't see they did any better than average. Of course, that's not a new story in the history of hot-rodding. :) It's also possible that if my car already had more mods, like head/cam, I would have seen more of a difference.

The only thing I'm not happy with is the exhaust tone. We'll see if I get used to it.

Like you, this is probably just Stage 1. I'm still debating whether to go cam-only, heads/cam, stroker, FI, what.

Decision, decisions.

$$$, $$$

I'm also thinking about major mods on my 04 z51 a4, dont know if i wanna put $5000+ into the car, or just drive it like it is then get a used C6 down the road.

Within a year or so, i'm sure used C6's with mods can be had for under $40,000.

Heck, I just bought a brand NEW '07 C6 for right at $40,500, so used ones under that figure can certainly be found right now. Matter of fact I'm pretty sure there are a few right now over on CF in their C6s for sale section.

Twelves!

Another cut&paste job:

Took it to the track again today, made 2 passes and did better. Both were in the 12s, the better of the two was a 12.69 @ 113.8

Neither pass had an ideal launch so it still has more left in it. Still, a 2.08 60' on the OEM 5-year-old Goodyear EMTs didn't strike me as terrible.

I'm getting used to the exhaust.

Oh, and I won both my "races" by quite a bit, one against a C6 and one against a F-body. :D

~this is Rashelle****we are having to pull sundays at the shop

Dave that is so awesome, those where the numbers Greg said she has in her so of course he is in there smiling..

Its funny how the exhaust can grow on one, I week ago I hated the way my car sounded, now Im o.k. with it (still want my new exhaust installed though)

Yeah man! I'm actually getting used to the sound from my car. Well, ALMOST.... :D I think if the deceleration popping could be gotten rid of I would be much happier. It sounds too much like the car is backfiring to me, which kind of embarrasses me..... :shrug01:
