First Corvette, first forum message

A big hello to the group. Name is Eric. I live 20 miles north of Daytona Beach in Palm Coast.

I just bought my first Corvette, a Red 2004 Z-06 that just came off a lease with only 10,000 miles.

My prior cars have been mostly European sports cars ranging from a 1958 Jaguar XK-150, an early 1750 Alpha Spider (remember the movie "The Graduate"), a few BMW's including a 3.0 Z3. I had a 1994 Camero Z-28, a Silverado, a Dodge Magnum with a hemi, several motorcycles but never owned a 'Vette.

This Z-06 is a blast. I replaced the OEM tires with Michelin Pilot Sport II tires with the hope we get some rain.<BG>

The dense smoke which covered my wife's pick-up with ash have kept me off the road since I put the new tires on but gave me a chance to do a proper detailing. I use Klasse sealant and glaze, Forever Black on the tires, Simichrome polish on the chrome wheels and Lexor leather cleaner then conditioner on the seats. Wow it looks great!

:welcome: Eric! :yesnod:

You will find this forum to be a great resource for various things, but specifically events that are happening inthe Florida region. If you don't see what you are looking for, just ask, someone knowledgeable will jump in and try to help.

Great looking car! As a Z06 owner also, you will find that you have purchased not only a Corvette, but a production race car. Get out their and drive it (when the smoke and ash clears). I would also recommend that you look into a local club to see if that is something that would interest you. They, as well as this site, area a great resource for events like car shows, drag racing, autocrosses, and road racing. With the Z06, you can do any of these, but I would highly recommend you giving any of the racing events a try. You certainly have the car for it!

Congrats and welcome to the board!! :wavey:

We're inundated with ash in Tampa too. Looks like no Corvette Cruising this weekend!

:welcome: to the best Corvette site you'll ever find.

Very nice looking ride.

I too am on the East Coast in Palm Bay. Hope to meet you at an event in the near future.

Welcome abaord...I love the ZO.....You won't regret it......I'm returning to Fla Monday, hope the damn fires don't keep me from getting home..

:welcome: VERY nice looking car......

We really don't have any ash up here near Tallahassee, but you can definitely smell the smoke in the air. The wife and I wanted to take a ride out to St. George today, but only made it part of the way before turning back. The further west we drove, the thicker the smoke got. Wasn't any sense going any further if we couldn't see the scenery. Wound up going over to Alligator Point instead and walked the beach there. The rangers at the part were really eyeballing the C5Z and giving approving thumbs up signals...

But why is everyone so worried about ash? Doesn't it just wash right off? Love bugs are starting to show up around here, and I would imagine they are a much worse problem. Hey, maybe the smoke and ash will choke out those flying varmints! :hehehe:

I'd like to thank everyone for the warm welcome. It's great to part of the group.

It's just that the car is too nice and clean. Besides, we can only wash cars here two days a week.

Love Bugs.... I hate 'em. Perhaps it's time for a bra? NOT!

Can I make a suggestion then? Get a leaf blower. I rarely actually wash the cars any longer. Just blow off all the loose stuff with the leaf blower, then clean off the car using detail spray. Works like a champ....

Welcome

:welcome: Beautiful Vette. The Z06 is an awesome looking ride. Glad to have you here. I have a daughter and son in Daytona Beach so maybe sometime we'll cross paths.

Great group here. I think you'll enjoy the folks.

I use a large California Car Duster. It does a great job of getting loose dirt and dust off. It's about six years old and works better than when it was new.

However, it won't remove the ash from the wild fires as it sticks to the car.
