I've pretty much got a handle on the LS and LT engines, but what can you tell me about the "Vortec" engines. I'm considering getting a Tahoe/Suburban in the 2003 to 2005 year range and would like to know if they can be "tuned" like the LS series engines. I'm not looking to mod it or tuning for maximum horsepower, but I sure would like to know that it was properly set up to deliver the best fuel usage possible. Can that be done??? I know that the LS engines can have the fuel matrix adjusted to provide proper air/fuel ratios at all throttle positions and would like to know if the same thing can be done on the Vortec engines. Are the Vortec engines aluminum or cast iron? Do they have aluminum heads? Any common pit falls/weak areas to be worried about? How is the ignition handled....coil packs, dist/opti, or something else? Anyone that has one of these engines and cares to comment on it, how do you like it? Is it reliable? Does it have enough ponies to get the job done? Have you towed anything with it, and how does it do THAT job? Thanks in advance for any replies and info..........
