As you said...PENDING legislation. I don't think it'll pass, but then again, who'd havbe thought road kill would become a lawful delicacy in some states?:rofl1:
Your right, tax dollars are needed to offset the ever increasing population growth here for infrastructure, police and over water usage, the only thing that grew faster than that is the greed by builders, land owners and politicians who failed to plan properly for this population boom. The builders don't care how they tax the exsisting resources as long as the can jam 500 homes in a 10 acre parcel of land.
One thing at a time. You're right, there was/is huge greed on the part of landowners. Why? Because it's consumer driven. Since you can get 130+ more out of your house, why shouldn't you? I know if I sold, I'd do the same thing. If you and I have something that is at a premium to another, why wouldn't we sell it at that premium?
Again, it's supply and demand. As long as there are people that will pay the premium $$, the land costs will continue to stay up there. Even with the housing market leveling off and dropping in some areas, Florida, California and a few others are holding thier own and in some cases, increasing due to the prime waterfront and other amenities they offer.
Yes, the politicians and government in general failed miserably in thier planning efforts. I won't argue that point at all. And as long as "they" allow it, builders will continue to do it.
Registered to vote here? Do it...dump 'em and try an new batch of politicians.
And I didn't move here to retire, I am not retired, I am just lucky that I made enough money in my 30's and 40's so I don't have to work.
If you're not working...you're either retired or unemployed. Just because one doesn't draw a "pension" or SS, doesn't mean they're not retired. I'm retired once, don't draw my pension yet and still own a business. One day I'll say F**K IT! and sell this MOFO and retire...again.![]()
That doesn't mean that I have to give it away to pay for roads and schools while greedy businessman and builders make a killing and whine all the way to the bank
I agree that I hate giving my $$ away to ANY governmental entity...local, state or FEDERAL! Regardless, do you drive in the ditches? If not, you still have benefit from the roadway development and maintenanace (if we can really call what county roads and DOT does "maintenance?").
Schools? Well, I no longer have children in public school. Maybe I can get them to remove that tax from my tax billI know you don't have to pay for that "up north":rofl1:
and could care less if there is enough services for the amount of homes they build. Poor planning, poor road planning, poor school planning, poor planning by the pea-brained politicians who see nothing but dollar signs, but plenty of shopping malls and cheap restaurents.
Sure, lets leave things the way they were. We'll have this massive influx of retiress and transplants, but we won't increase the capacity of our roads and we just won't "let" the developers build additional housing. Yep, thats the ticket. So, when the housing market is saturated, you;ll have a couple of choices to make:
1) Rent (ie: give your money away...again)
2) Pay much higher prices for permanent housing in a saturated market
3) Move somewhere else.
And once you get settled in, call the police, sheriff's office or fire/fire rescue and then bitch about the response timesWhen I started in the late 70's, my "zone" was from the Alafia River south to Manatee County, and from roughly 78th street/US41 and the city limits east to US301 and in some cases to SR39 including (appropriately named...Fort Lonesome.
The Brandon area zones were from essentially 301 or Lakewood road east to Turkey creek or SR 39 (depending on what time and which years) and SR 60 was the dividing line N/S.
So, Valrico...if I'm not tied up elsewhere...see you in about an hour and a half:rofl1:
Heart attack? Hang on...were a commin'........
You seem to take quite the issue with what you consider "poor planning."
While I'll agree with you to a point, remember that some of this "planning" is a direct result of the influx of bodies. You gotta stack 'em somewhere and you gotta school the kiddies.
I agree we have waaaaayyy to many malls and shopping centers Everytime you turn around, there's another strip center going in while the one up the street sits partially vacant for months or more. We don't make good use of existing properties, thats for sure. But since kids are already on double sessions in most schools, the increase in students necessitates additional building thus additional funding.
We need to control the COST of this building better though and remove some of the greed.
And to make $130,000 in profit on resale, well thats ok but back home I built my house in 1982 for $75,000, sold it in 2003 for $695,000, now that was a good investment.
I agree:thumbsup: Couple of questions though?
When was your house here built? What was the purchase price?
I purchased mine here in the early/miod 80's for 52k. Now worth about 285k. Not bad for the area.
Really sounds like things were much better in Mass. Better government, better housing market, less taxes, the Kennedys...oops, sorry, that one slipped:rofl1: ....so....pray tell....as the thread implies...why did you come to Florida?
Tennessee, North Carolina, Kentucky, I heard the only virgins left in those states are the girls that can outrun their brothers.
Or 1st cousins in some case
