Everytime I roll through here and stop at this thread I cringe, so much misinformation, many people fell asleep in history class.

OK, where to start, ummm this country has always existed to some extent on cheap labor. Remember the railroads?????? The chinese immigrants built the major contribution to the expansion of the United States???? Hello!!!!!!
The Panama Canal, built mostly by poor people and immigrants. The majority of New York including the Brooklyn Bridge as well.
Throughout history immigration has always been an issue. Chinese, Russians, Germans the Irish and now recently Mexicans have all been looked upon as the majority of the problem.
The problem has alway been throughout history is big business. Economics pure and simple. Supply and demand. If there is a demand at a certin price point (wages paid) then and if someone is willing to meet that price point (workers) then you have a contract so to speak.
American businesses have historically taken advantage of workes via low wages and horrible working conditions. Thats why the unions were formed, to try to make things better for the American worker. For those who work an 8 hour day, thank the unions. Got hurt on the job but still got paid, thank the unions. Home for Christmas and other federal holidays, thank the unions.
Blame the unions, high wages, inflation, lack of worker productivity and ingenuity, law suits etc. More then enough to even things out.
But here is the deal, dont blame people for being human beings and wanting to better their lives. We all have that drive. Why should Mexicans be any different? The average illegal from Mexico is not highly educated, were not talking about people with college degrees here. I'm not sayig they are unintelligent or dumb, but expecting them to sit back and have a debate among themselves about the legality involved in improving their lot in life is a bit unrealistic I think.
Are we all not here in some way via immigration??? Our forefathers had the same drive as the Mexicans do today, they want a better life, and still after all these years what country do they want to come to the most? America!!!
So who is to balme?
I'll start with Mexico itself. The government there is so corrupt and full of drug lords that the economy is constantly in the crapper. They have changed currencies and values the most in the last twenty years. Murders and rapes go unpunished. There is an elitis class there there. There is no middle class in Mexico, you are either rich or dirt poor. You have not seen poor until you visit Mexico.
Mexico also needs to get over the ......."we got robbed by the US" syndrome too. Yeah Sam houston ad Davy Crockett led an illegal taking of Texas and started the assimilation of the entire south west into the US, but again, history is chalk full of stories of those who have conquered and have been conqured. Get over it already.
American business, is next. Profits over humans. How many of you feel you're under paid in what you do? So do Mexicans in Mexico. You have some possibilty of movement and upward potential. They don't. The majority are locked into their lot in life. There are no Pell grants or student loans or scholarships for most in Mexico. For some there are stories of Cinderella, but not many.
The politicians, on BOTH sides. Money talks, period. People want to stay in office, its that simple. We could easily issue worker visas like Microsoft gets to offer jobs to Indians (from India) to come over and write complex math algorythms for their software and pay them 300 K per year to do this. But its not worth the government's time to collect fees on a 2 dollar and hour job, 300 K jobs, oh yes.
The real question is at this time, are you really willing to take the risk to the economy to round up all the illegals, build a wall to keep them out and deport everybody?????
For every one person who can afford to buy a 10 dollar head of lettuce, there are 20 who cant. The true people to listen to in this debate with the hard facts are the economists. They will tell you how dangerous things could be if we pursued this agenda, which some here promote. The last thing we need right now is a recession. Look at what is happeneing in the housing market, the economists warned people to not go crazy and think things would last forever. Did anyone listen?? Not many.
How much an hour would it take in salary for you to go pick strawberries, tomatoes, etc. for 10 - 12 hours per day. No paid holidays. Would you do it with no heath insurance, no workers comp? No OSHA safety inspections? No Social security benefits? No unemployment benefits? How many US citizens would do this job under the above described conditions for 3 dollars an hour? Four dollars an hour? Can you live on 8000 dollars a year? Dont you dare get sick and need a doctor.
We stereo type so bad in this country. One Mexican screws up, one Cuban is arrested, one cop gets busted, one teacher is stupid and the whole lot is bad. Just throw the baby out with the bath water.
Maybe I'm paying 100 bucks more per year for the illegals being here. That covers car insurance, health insurance and other intangilbes I can't think of right now. Lets even say 200. Get rid of all the illegals and replace them wiht American workers and I'll pay 2000 dollars extra or more per year easily. That head of lettuce some of oyu say ou can afford at 10 dollars, well think of all the plaes you go and spend money at that uses lettuce. not just the grocery store.
Then what happens is the middle class has less disposable income. They stop spendiing. Buying less. Demand drops, prices go way up. So now you are not only paying more for lettuce but also everything else across the board. The rich dont spend their money, they invest it. The middle class drives this economy.
You think that what I have said is rubbish, how many of you felt the pain at not only the gas pumps, but across the borad on virtually every single tangible item or consumable good recently with high gas prices? That was just a small preview for you, it would be worse.
