PLEASE POST YOUR WELL WISHES TO JOHN AND HIS FAMILY VIA THE NEW THREAD:

http://www.corvetteflorida.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18340

It'll be a sticky for a while yet. All the new messages are being moved to this trhead and but this one's going to be un-stuck.

Thanks.

I found this expecially appropriate on this Veterans day:usa_flag:
Several of us here know John from the Saturday evening gathering at Andreh's Insty Tune in Tampa.

For those that do not, John (I'll not use his last name for security purposes) is a weapons instructor and works for I.C.E. (Formerly U.S. Customs) and is a former U.S. Army SF troop.

He is being deployed to the sandbox for six (6) months as a member of a contract team to train and work with indiginous forces in the region. He'll be training them in border interdiction practices, weapons and other areas of border operations as part of this team.

Without going into specifics (locations, etc) again for security purposes, lets just say that he will be going directly into harms way. He's actually replacing a member of the team that was recently wounded and sent back to the states:(

We were all together last night for a few hours and he had a chance to drive his C5 Z06 with the group one last time before shipping out. He ships this week.

I've assured him that I and his friends here will continue to look after his wife and family in his absence and maintain contact with them.

I'll be contacting his family at least once a week, and have my wife maintian a P.O.C. for his wife as well if they just need to talk.
He's going to be providing e-mail contact info to me as he moves along so we can stay in touch.

I was thinking that since he's going to be gone over the holidays, we could do something special for the family here. Any ideas would be appreciated and I need to find out if they're even going to be in town?

Finally, and the real purpose of this post:

Please keep John and his family in your prayers over the next six months.

Although he's really psyched and ready for this duty, you can tell that behind that calm demeanor, there's still some apprehension and concern. That makes for a much better warrior:thumbsup:

Prayers for a safe tour and safe return and Prayers for his familys peace during this separation.

Stay safe my friend and may Gods hand of safety envelop you and your team during your deployment:usa_flag:

Thanks,

Gordon

Amen and thanks for letting us know. Keep us posted please.

Will do. May invite her and/or the kids to some of our events and such. Might need an extra seat if someone has an empty one available?

Would be nice to let her know that we are right here for them:thumbsup:

 Very nice, Gordon. We'll keep him and all our service men and women in our prayers. :yesnod:

Amen Brothers. One of my co-workers shipped over in June for a one year contract. The first day in Baghdad a sniper missed him and hit his teammate in the arm with an AK round while he was standing there talking to him. And that was in the "green zone"!

Got word through his wife the other day that's in country and doing his thing. Say's it's not bad. The weather is wierd, the food is ok and the rest is ...well...the Middle East:(

There are some needs that we can fill and I'll post up a list shortly. One of the things on the list were Corvette Mags, old, new, didn't matter.

I have a bunch of old ones I'm going to send over and I'll go by and get some new ones this weekend.

Maybe we could rotate it and each month someone could pick up the latest edition? Just a though?

I'll get his wish list up shortly.

I would certainly sign up to send Magazines, and other things he may want.

This Christmas season

Just wanted to remind those of us here to keep John and his family in our thoughts and prayers this Christmas season. He's still in the Sandbox helping to secure freedom and democracy for the people of Iraq.

God Bless you my friend and keep you safe, and keep his watchful hand over your family.

Spoke to his wife today via e-mail and she says she and the family have plans for Christmas and that they are well taken care of.

Just the same, if any of you know them well enough, I think a call or e-mail wouldn't hurt:thumbsup:

Merry Christmas everyone!

Gordon

You got it!

Sorry Gordon this is late. I was laid off from my job and lost my pssword and login info. along the way. Thanks Rich Z for getting me hooked back up. I will hold them in my prayers, Gordon.

Although some already knew, as requested by John and his wife, I have held the following information confidential until "authorized" for release.

In compliance with those wishes...the good news...

As of 1445 hrs this date, (Saturday 02 August 08), after eleven (11) months, some 250 combat patrols and quite an adventure in the sandbox, John arrived back at Tampa International Airport and to the loving arms of his wife and son.:icon_cheers:

I was there with them to greet him, make sure things went well and take some pictures for thier scrapbook.
I'll have to get them scanned in, but I will and will have them posted ASAP.

As it should be, he received an escort from two (2) CBP (Customs) officers through the airport and to baggage claim.

It was heartwarming at one point when a gentleman, probably in his late 30's or early 40's, came up, excused himself, extended his hand and said, I was sitting behind you on the plane and I just wanted to say "thank you" for what you're doing:thumbsup:

Then, without further fanfare or commentary, as quickly dissapeared.

We got his bags, got him and the family safely into the limo, and he was headed home....

It's now that his wife has said it is ok to let everyone know he's back.

I'm almost positive he'll be back at Andreh's (Insty Tune & Lube) next Saturday if anyone would like to stop by.

Also, if you'd like to offer your wellwishes, thank you's or congratulations on a job well done, please feel free to post them here.

I'll leave this as a sticky for a while.

So...

Hey John!!
