STS-116 Discovery Space Shuttle Launch Thursday

Scott will you be watching it in person or on tv ? I would love to see a launch in person.

The wife and I are talking about going to St. Augustine on Thursday and Friday, if the weather is OK. Sure would be cool to get a video in person of that launch....

It's Jeff, right? I'd love to see a launch in person as well. For this one, I'll probably just climb up on to my roof.

Rich, if you do go, make sure to get a good video. I would love to have a copy of that on DVD. I could send some blank discs.

Scott

Ya it's Jeff. You think we will be able to see the launch from here on the Gulf side, don't they fly towards the east after the launch ?

Yeah, I've got a Sony that writes directly to the mini DVD disks. Does a pretty good job I think. Those videos I took of the exhaust on my Z were done using it.

I checked the weather forecast for St. Augustine, and it didn't look real promising to me, though. :nonod:

We can see it from here especially at night. Looks kind of like a candle. In the day light we can see the smoke trail, too. We're about 150 miles south and west of the launch site

Oh yeah, I'd love to see it up close ....and hear and feel it! But, it ain't gonna happen, so I'll be in the front yard watchin' for the light!
When the last shuttle landed a month or so ago it came over this area and I heard the boom-boom as it broke the sound barrier.
So many people just take the shuttle for granted now. You talk about a launch and the say whatever..... :shrug01:

Shuttle Launch

Seen one years ago when my kids were young. 2nd launch after the Columbia crash. At the time I was 40 gave me chills down my spine to see it at the Cape in person. These young'ens just take this stuff for granted, Guess when your 55 not much gives you that tingle down your spine except blowing a Mustangs doors off.

55 and luving every day:dancer01: :dancer01: :dancer01:

The first night launch of a space shuttle in about 4 years. Weather should be great. About 9:35pm. I'll be out watching, will you?

Just checked the weather forecast for that area and it doesn't look all that good for Thursday night, from what I can see. Matter of fact, Connie and I were planning on going to St. Augusting Thursday and Friday, but I think those plans are being scrubbed.

Looks like they will try again tonight at 8:47pm. I'll be at work, but I'm gonna try and get up on the roof to check it out.

Hopefully the weather will be better for them........fingers crossed...

Anyone get pics?? I could see the yellow/orange glowing ball of flame for a brief moment then it was gone in the clouds I guess. Then a little higher up I saw it again as a white light, then gone....have a safe trip folks!

I saw the launch on the Nasa channel, then after about 30 seconds into the launch I went outside and saw the shuttle for about 5 minutes. It was absolutely mindboggling to think that I saw and actual launch just after it happened. Next launch I'm going. We had a clear view, I was surprized that only one other neighbor came out to see it.

I was the only one outside in my neighborhood, too....

Just got home from the Space Coast Corvette Club Christmas Party. We were at a restaurant called Fish Lips at Port Canaveral. That is just south of the launch site. The view was awesome and we could hear and feel the rumble. I think our news letter editor took pictures. I will try and get one to post.
